I have been looking for a DVD recorder at a reasonable price ($250 or less) HDMI up-convert to 1080. I have yet to see one that has a good review. Please post your recommendations.

Thanks.

I have a Philips DVDR3575H and like it just fine. It is a bit higher than your price, but it has a 160GB HDD so I think it's worth the extra cost. (Wal-Mart Price was $298 when I bought mine.) I had one without a hard drive before this one and the drive makes editing a whole lot easier. My old recorder (Magnavox) didn't even last two years of VERY little use, so I would suggest extended warranty on whatever you get. My HR20 recordings through S-video look real nice played back on it.

You can learn more than you'll ever want to know about it in these two threads:

Thanks MeSue. I had seen that one. As they go it seems to be one of the better units.

I have a Lite-On I bought about 3 years ago now. Quality DVD recorders are getting hard to find, unfortunately the technology didn't really catch on.

I've had 2 DVD recorders and the lasers started to die after 2.5 to 3 yrs.of moderate use. Keep that in mind when shopping. My next recorder will probably be a cheaper one.

I have a Toshiba DR400, under $200.00 at CC about six months ago. No ATSC tuner(I didn't need it) 1080 upconvert, HDMI out, nice machine.

when i buy, some may consider it a waste of $$, but i buy the 2-3 yr (everything covered) warran.

Note that the $99 version available from Costco has the model number D-KR10, which is identical to the D-R400. A nice bonus is that it comes with an HDMI cable. That alone is worth more than the recorder, if you get your cables from circuit city or best buy.

I never think to look in COstco for electronics, guess I should start.
