I have a r15 downstairs, thinking about putting the HR21 down there even though it is not a HD tv, it will be one day and I want to take advantage of the networking, VOD, and MediaShare on that TV anyway. Plus the HR21 will give me some extra channels.

If MRV happens then we'll be set with to HR21.

What is the cheapest path from a r15 dvr to a hr21 dvr. I don't need help installing, activating, I can do that myself.

Any tips

Wait until MRV arrives then see what the deals are. Or you could call retention and do something lame like threaten to go to cable for their stellar service and prices.

Call DirecTV and ask what deals they have for you to add an HR21. Chances are it will be $199 or $99. If you don't have any HD equipment, then you will need a dish upgrade and your chances of a deal are better.

Don't wait on a specific feature, such as MRV, that has no planned release date. Yeah, it may be comming, but no one knows when.

Personally, I decided to just go buy one at Best Buy and not mess with CSR roulette. I had a $50 Reward Zone coupon, so either got it for $50 cheaper or $50 more than I might have directly through D*. But I walked out the door with it, and installed it when I got home (already have an HR20 and 5-LNB). I didn't have to make multiple calls for better deals or worry about scheduling an installation. So I might have paid a little more out of pocket, but I was completely done with the process. I decided it was worth possibly a little extra cash to stay away from the other potential headaches.

If you bypass DirecTv all together, you will have to buy the 5 LNB dish from somewhere and install that - which is a little trickier than the others have been.

If you go through DirecTV, you may be able to swing a deal, but you also may have to pay $99 for the installation (unless you work out something different with them).

Either way, unless they installed a 5LNB dish in October, you would need the dish upgrade to get the new channels. An HR21 will work with a lesser dish, you just won't get everything it's capable of receiving.

I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't much available to you in the line of deals as you got a pretty good one within the last six months, but it's definitely worth a try!

Also don't forget that you have to subscribe to the $9.99 HD package because you now have an HD receiver.
