View Full Version : HELP PVR-721 WITH 2 TV'S
I bought the 721 with the intension of me watching the game on one tv and my wife watching the soaps on another, how the heck do you do that? i ran super-video on one tv and coax on another tv in the bedroom, but what i see on one tv i see on another :( when i push the tv/video on the remote of the pvr on sat, it blanks out the tv in the bedroom on coax but the s-video still runs at the same time.....
Can some one straighten me out please?

Can't do that. 721 is capable of outputing only one signal to the TV. So even though you can record 2 channels at the same time, you can't watch them at the same time in full-screen mode (without PIP).
I think the upcoming 522 was supposed to have 2 outputs, but I haven't heard anything about that in a while now

Sorry Dan, there isn't a single DISH (or DTV) receiver which can feed two tvs at this time. As mentioned, the 522 is rumored to have this capability and charlie has mentioned on a tech forum also.
You probably need to buy a second receiver, or sell your 721 on Ebay and get a 508/508 or 508/301 instead.

Or wait until the 522 comes out and buy that with the money you sell your 721 used.
Tech Chat coming in February.

you may be able to do something else though: if you don't mind being in the same room with your wife.
since the pip works on any tv, you can watch something on larger screen mode, and your wife can watch what she wants in the pip mode or the other way around.(but no audio)
ps.
if you were to sell your 721, how much do you want for it? (just asking)

I am planning on selling my 721 when the 522 becomes available.
Could care less about internet access and games on tv. Unnedded distractions....

There also is a 322 coming out that is purported to do the same thing (without PVR functionality). It has 2 TV outs and 2 remote controls. It is mentioned (in another thread) to be discussed at the upcoming Dish Team Summit.
All i wanted was to be able to view something else in another room without the expense of buying a new receiver, and extra monthly charges for the second receiver, i guess i will definitely sell my 721, luckily we just got it and still have the box, bags and all the stuff it came with......one thing i still mis from the old direct-TV days 5 years ago is the Sleep function

I find it hard to believe you blew $500 on a 721 JUST to watch two shows at once. Seriously, two 301's even with the additional $6 per month "extra TV fee" would take 4 years to equal the price of the 721. Send the 721 and buy my two 301's on ebay. I'd rather not spam here... but i already posted on the buy/sell topic.
Now that i'm reading about the rumored 522, I'm wondering why we'd want to keep the 721 at all.
