Just a reminder that if you pay your bill by the year AT150 works out to about $37.50/month instead of $42.99. Prices go up on Feb 1 so you can lock in the old rate for a year. The new rates work out to $39.42/month when paid by the year. Considering bank interest rates, I'll take the discount and pay now. It works out to about 12% savings or $65.76 for the year.

You are comparing the old annual price to the new monthly price.

$37.50 vs. $39.42 is about $24 increase, about $2 a month no matter how you look at it.

If you was going to keep doing this monthly though and decide to do this annually this time vs. monthly before the rates go up, then you would save about $5 a month, around $65 for the year.

Ahh, the one time that it's good to be a newbie. Price increase deferred until 1 year anniversary.

I was paying monthly. When the price increase was announced it became a no brainer. So for me the savings was $65 as I took advantage of old rates and yearly payment. I posted the old and new rates to help avoid that confusion as there were probably other people in the same situation as me.

Even with getting a month free of programming that is better than the interest you get on a cd at 5.00 % in which is hard to get now.

Thanks for the math exercise. Just converted to annual for both AT150 and the HBO/show package. Saved a bunch for both!

My only quarrel with paying in advance is that it locks me in for a year with E*. With the spectre of Murdoch hovering nearby, and no announcement about MLB Extra Innings yet, I prefer to keep open my option to jump to D* if they happen to start offering a killer signup deal.

If D* picks up HBO Comedy, and E* doesn't add (ahem) PBS Kids! or Extra Innings when the season starts, I'll reopen my internal debate on staying vs. going.

They done said no to PBS Kids because there are enough channels like that and they want too much for the channel. They said that about a few other channels too.
