I just set up the network connection on my HR20-700. I get the message that says I have connected to DirecTV over the internet. However, when I press Menu and select On Demand nothing happens. When I try to manually tune to channel 1000 I get a channel not available message. Did I leave out a step?

I'm still at software version 0x1BE by the way.

It can take a few days before DirecTV's system recognizes your network connection and activates your DOD access.

I was starting to get grumpy. :)

I connected both of mine, different days, and both had the channels listed in about an hour and the guide data was pretty well populated by the next morning.

I just went back and checked and selecting On Demand now takes me to the DoD guide on channel 1000.

Most of the channels will show no content for a short while, don't be alarmed as it will take several hours to populate. You may get a couple of channels up sooner to play around with though. Yhe guide data is streamed via the sats.

after having nothing in the guide and no demand option in the menu, i checked my network settings. after saying i was connected to the internet, the on demand option appeared in my menu, but did nothing when i tried to select it. after RBR channels are back in guide and on demand option takes me there but there are no programs available.

oh, so will this happen after every software update or RBR?

No, the data is stored on the hard drive. You are just now receiving it for the first time so it takes a while, the same as regular channel guide data.

But there were some and I was able to start a download about an hour or so after setting up the network connection (Just like Davring). I checked again this morning and there were many more programs available and the channels above 1000 where available. So it looks like it's working as expected for me. Thanks to everyone for the help and info.
