After a wind storm and power outage Wed my HR20 no longer sees sat 101. Other sat sig strengths look normal. I'm able to watch already recorded programs, but not able to bring up the guide. Bringing up the main menu gives me one choice, "Signal Strength". It would be nice to at least able to watch OTA while waiting for D* service call next Tues. Any workarounds to view ota??

Hook the OTA line directly to the TV.

Hook the OTA line directly to the TV.

No tuner.

Since you are receiving the other sats you "should" get 101 as well. I would reset the tuner, if you havn't already.

Go ahead and select Signal Strength. Then "Continue" on through the the System Test. Wait for it to complete. View the "errors". Then "Continue" through the setup, acquiring guide data, etc., and you should have your full menu back.

It's not going to work without a satellite signal.

thanks for the suggestions. I guess the bottom line is that without sat 101 there is no way to get the hr20 to be an ota only tuner. It will be interesting to see what D* repair says about the problem. My HR10-250 doesn''t see sat 101 either, so it is probably wiring at the dish or a bad lnb. I have no interior multiswitch so I guess it could also be the multiswitch built into the dish.

Getting back to what could be the cause of this problem, since it's rather odd to lose just the 101 due to a windstorm and a power outage that doesn't effect any other satellite strengths, have you tried restarting the receiver with the red button?

I have my HR20-700 connected to an esata drive. After the wind storm/power outage I did the following:

1) Unplugged HR20 and esata drive from power (Antec MX-1 w/1GB WD)
2) Disconnected esata cable at HR20
3) Left everything unplugged/off for one-half hour
4) Plugged in esata drive enclosure power and turned on esata
5) Connected esata cable to HR20-700
6) Plugged in power to HR20-700
7) HR20-700 booted ok off the esata but ended up at the screen "Searching for Signal on Satellite In 1 & 2" (771)".
8) Selected "More Info" and followed reset instructions.
9) Hit HR20-700 red reset button behind front door on front right that also covers the card.
10) Rebooted and ended-up on same screen as (7).
11) Selected "Menu" and only choice was "Signal Strength". Selected that and found the following:
Sat 101 failed (no signal)
Sat 103 (c) failed (no signal)
Sat 110 OK
Sat 119 OK
12) Went to the other room and checked the HR10-250. It also failed to boot and further examination showed that it too could not see Sat 101.
13) Called D* to get service call
14) Discovered that I was able to watch programs previously recorded.

Well I guess the other satellite strengths don't look normal. You have no 103(c)'s either, and didn't post any info for 99(b) or 103(s), so I guess for whatever reason the 99/101/103 section of your LNB has gone bad. Sounds like you've taken all the steps you can. Didn't know about the HR10-250. Have you got any more receivers around and a multi-switch that might be bad, or is that it with the 4 tuners?

That's it with the four tuners; no multiswitch. The HR20 signal strength screen doesn't list 99(b) or 103(s). Thanks for trying. D* repair here on Tues!

Can't you just hit EXIT on the remote when it is going through the setup to bypass it?

i thought someone told me that you need the 119 to get guide data if your LOS to other birds isnt good

someone will chime in with the proper knowledge i'm sure. Just figured if set to 2 channels then maybe can get in guide data

Yeah, that's true, but I think what's going on here is that the receiver just won't crank up without the 101.

Doesn't respond to the "EXIT" command at that point. I'll post the repair visit findings Tues. Thanks for all the suggestions.

DirecTV service came yesterday as scheduled. The problem was a misaligned dish (due to last Wednesday's wind storm). Everything ok now. Got six days credit from D* for service outage.
