View Full Version : HD Local Issues

I've been having problems with my local HD channels (philly) pixelating and going out over the past two weeks. I've checked my connections and restarted my receiver a few times. I finally called Directv today because I think my dish may be out of alignment (I lose my picture a lot - never for long periods at a time, but enough that an hour long program becomes unwatchable).

D* tells me there is some issue with locals and my receiver (HR20-700). THe CSR didn't even check my signals. She just said there is a known issue and I can call back for updates this week.

Has anyone heard about this issue or am I being jerked around? I ended up with a $10 credit (which I don't really care about) that took about 30 minutes to get. I am mostly just very frustrated because I've had about 5 recordings over the past two weeks that were unwatchable b/c of pixelating. Luckily, they were available on iTunes so the wife wasn't that pissed.

I noticed the same thing out here in SF. I had problems with all my locals today during the playoff games and even now. Hope this gets fixed soon.

I watched both games and didn't see any problems. I think both of you guys need your dish re-aligned.

This is NOT a dish alignment problem. Yesterday, my son had a swap of an HR10 to HR21. New setup works fine except for HD locals go in and out. The signal strength meter shows nothing on satelite 103a most of the time.

Called Directv and they sent out 3 techs at the same time. The tech replaced absolutely everything in the system and HD local still not reliable. They even hooked up an HR21 at the disk and plugged in a TV out on the roof and couldn't fix. They swapped 5 different HR21s same problem. All other channels are showing a strength of almost 100. They even swapped the disk, thinking that it might be bent.

They concluded (maybe erroneously) that the batch of HR21-700s that they had were all bad.

Your problem may or may not be the same as the problem of the other two posters. I was getting 771s for some of my locals and new HD channels due to a dish problem. I get 0s on all but one transponder on the 103(s). It's the 103(c) that was causing the problems, in the 30s and 40s. Tech came out and realigned the dish and they're back up to 80s and 90s.

Problems with HD locals is a known issue with the HR20, but the pixelating isn't usually a sympton. It's typically a 771 error and an outright grey screen.

Directv is really no help...I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with them and they want me to try stupid things like reset the receiver (like I haven't already tried that stuff)
