Anyone else having weird 50x problems after 168?

Just had to ask because mine was working so well and now it seems like it is trying really hard to behave but just doesn't quite know how to do it.

The first night I got home and noticed the update, I did a Power button reset to make sure it's brains were screwed on tight. Within 1 day I had a lockup while in the menu system somewhere. I was able to Power off, on and it seemed ok.

The next night another weird lockup, it wouldn't do anything, so another Power Button reset.

Last night I pop open the EPG and go forward 1 day and all I get is Info Not Available, so I back up and all I have is 4 hours out.

This time, I power off, pull the dumbcard, pull the power, let it sit for a minute. plug it in, insert dumbcard, power on, it downloads the Guide and now it seems ok.

Prior to 168 my machine was humming along as smooth as a sewing machine. I don't know what to think of this latest round of hiccups. This is my 3rd 501 and I've had it since last May and it has performed flawlessly except for a very loud, high pitched hard drive.

Anyone else's 50x burp due to 168?

I tok my 508 to my best friends hme last night. I sold them a dippy DP years ago and they are cotemplating converting to direct. I ran switch test got it running and BAM, 5 minutes later scrolling thru the guide the stinking thing locked up. I rebooted at the power button but it was still unstable so I pulled the card.



They said I thought this NEW box was better than our old one. What gives?

I left the 508 for a couple days so they could try it.....

Wouldnt be surprised to see the DP hooked back up when I return.....

That makes a good impression now dont it? That reminds me of when a customer of mine had some of their family members come over after I switched him from Primestar so they can see what the service is like so I could do the same. The picture was not coming in at that time. Well guess what? I went to their house and they said they would think about it, they went to my competetor to get the same brand instead. That really made me look bad. Sometimes the bad things happen at the wrong time.

Maybe you should try taking the 508 to the city address that's assigned to it and see if it works there. ;) Could be they have a secret gps chip installed that lets the receiver know where it it, and makes it misbehave when it isn't at the proper location. hehe

I would say that my 501 has been as good as its EVER been under 168. From the sound of it the 721 problems -- I'm starting to think that maybe buying a 508 would be better than getting a 721 at this point?

I have noticed that once we got a "info not available" when looking ahead into the EPG -- and it took a few minutes to pop up (very much like with the 301, only a few days out). I've seen that once, but didn't mind that much, since it happens on our 301 all the time. But now that you mention, I don't ever remember that happening on the 501 previously.

Had to reboot for this first time in a while this afternoon. I was getting audio but no video, reboot fixed it

After pressing "stop" while watching a pre-recorded show while the 508 was also recording another, it locked up... Had to reset, and of course the movie it was recording was not completed. Luckily, it's showing again tomorrow.

This is the first problem I've had with the 508, and it has the 1.68 now. Hopefully this won't be a repeat.
