View Full Version : Sound delay during PVR ops

If this has been beat to death, I'm sorry, but I read a lot about it on here.

This is the issue where when you rewind or skip ahead, the sound takes a couple seconds to catch up to sync.

I have 2 TVs hooked up to my 721, 1 via a S-video cable and the fiber to a HTS receiver, the other via the RF out (and run to another room).

I have noticed, when both tvs are using the 721 as source, that when I use the PVR ops, the digital audio into the HTS receiver is delayed, but the RF driven in the other room is instantaneos. There is NO delay with it.

As I said, maybe someone else has seen this, but I just figgered I'd post it since there are so few people using RF Out anymore....

Ok, I told you 'what'... dont expect me to tell 'why' :-)

As far as I can tell, it's the fact that when the 721 is paused/skipping/etc, instead of outputing silence, it outputs nothing.. so the receiver, when the output comes back on, goes and rediscovers the source (which can take several seconds). I just bought a new receiver, and the sound takes much longer to come on than my old receiver (both were connected optically). On the plus side, this makes the audio resync problems much less noticable (as skipping around causes silence, instead of the wrong audio)

At least the 721 audio comes back. With my DP I have to skip again 3 or 4 times to get the sound back and sometimes the pic also

I agree that a large part of the lag may be the digital decoding in the A/V receiver. I have the analog outputs of my 721 going to other rooms, and I can hear the audio start in the other rooms well before my primary A/V receiver (which is optically connected) outputs sound.
