It's raining so hard outside, yet I'm still able to watch all my HD channels. :eek2:

Not at all, man. Every other house I've done installs at (including tonight) with a Slimline has gone out of service from less rain than this.

I may be wrong but I heard that some slimlines had bad LNB assemblies. or maybe that was the sidecar model

No, the sidecar actually has better resistance to harsh weather, from its larger reflector.

Just to reiterate. Rain fade occurs because of heavy rain clouds in the upper atmosphere blocking reception. I can tell when a storm is approaching from the west because my signal is disrupted before the rain actually starts.

There are a lot of factors that go into rain fade.

Some of which are how much total rain is in the direct line between the sat and your dish. What is the size of the droplets in that line.

It can be near armaggedon at your house, but if the rest of the path to the sat is clear, your in good shape. The reverse is also true. You can be covered in sunshine but a few miles south of you can be getting removed from the map and you'll lose signal.

Rain fade is not solely a cloud issue. Clouds are one reason. Rain is another. Snow is yet another.

Snow is yet another.

Yep, snow fade does exist (although it's a very rare occurance).

Well, here in the Pacific Northwest, we frequently have lots of heavy rain clouds and rain, and we have never had any issues with rainfade.

FWIW: I have had less problems with the SlimLine than with the SideCar or 3LNB
I installed all myself.
Could have had less beer with the slimline install......can't remember....
