I picked up this receiver on ebay for cheap ($40 shipped) and it works great, except I can't get it activated :eek2: .

When I called directv they say that the receivers s/n has not been deactivated by the prior owner. The unit did not come w/a access card.

The System Information screen shows "Account Closed" under Directv service status...

Anyone have any luck getting a CSR to activate under similar circumstances?

I have contacted the seller, but don't expect much as I think they are just a dealer/installer with a bunch of these boxes and not the original owners.

FYI - I knew this would be pot-luck getting it activated, but want to try :).

If the previous owner hasn't taken the proper steps and won't, I don't think you'll get it activated.

You can always just watch what he had recorded, though. :) As long as he didn't delete them first...

I figured... at least I get a $40 250 gig hard drive out of it :)

Too bad though, it has a working HDMI port...

Call up.
Ask to speak with the Access Card team
Tell them your situation.
You will need a new card for $20.
Usually if you can verify the RID/Serial/Model, they'll beleive you have the unit and deactivate it.

I spoke w/a Resolution specialist after the initial CSR in the Access Card dept couldn't help me. He called the customer and they deactivated the receiver, so I have a new access card on it's way to me ($20).

Thanks for the suggestions!
