Last night I turned on my 721 to watch recorded programs. I watched most all of them (that I cared about) and started to watch Monk at 11pm. I had noticed that earlier I had to tried to tune to TMC-E and got a "Lost the channel on this and that" black screen so I changed to TMC-XE (or was it TMC-W) and got a picture. I changed back to TMC-E and got a picture...wierd.

So at 11pm I switch to USA to watch Monk and got the "Lost the channel on this and that" black screen for a second or two then the picture came in. I decided that during the first commercial break I would reboot to clear the 721's head. Since then it has been rebooting over and over again. When it gets to "Acquiring Satellite Signal" after about 2 minutes the screen goes black for approximately 30 seconds, then it reboots. I tried pulling the Smart Card and forcing a reboot upon reinserting it...no change. I tried unplugging the 721 for 15 minutes but when I plugged it back in, same thing...continuous reboots. I unplugged it and left it all night.

Now it's Saturday morning and I have plugged it back in and guess what, continuous reboots. I don't know if I got L109 or not...hell I didn't even know they were spooling new software but I can't believe that I triggered a reboot at the exact instant that the software was installing. (Power light was NOT flashing) I was able to (by remote control insistance) to get the PVR screen to come up toward the end of a reboot cycle and start a recording but the recording was completely covered up with the "Acquiring Satellite Signal" black screen. When that screen went away the PVR played for about 10-15 seconds, then froze for a few seconds, then rebooted.

Is there anything else I can do before I do the Dish CSR square dance? Before you go there, my other receiver (2800) still works flawlessly so I've ruled out bad LNBs, my SW64 and power inserter, cabling, etc. Thanks in advance for any help.

Not that I think it would matter, but did you try to connect your 2800 to either of the cables running to your 721? If that works fine, which I would expect, I'd go ahead and call Dish.

BTW, Monk was kinda lousy last night.

I called Dish. After describing my problem I was immediately transferred to Advanced Tech Support (no suprise) and proceeded to do much:
:eek2: I described my problem
:bang: said the Tech
:crying: said I

I'm getting another receiver on Tuesday...

I'm sure glad I kept my old 5000 around, it's now in service again!
