My sister just got a 625. Her question is can she burn a DVD from programs recorded on the DVR. She gets a message that the material is copy protected.

She has no problem recording movies from HBO, Showtime etc if she goes direct from the sat feed to her Sony DVD player/burner. If she records something to the DVR and then attempts to burn to DVD she gets the "no can do" message.

I do it with my PC - but then my PC's capture card apparently doesn't recognize what is stopping your sister's DVD recorder.

Hmmm...looks like the macro vision is coming through to the DVD Recorder.

I have a Lite-On LVW 5005 and sometimes run into this problem when concerting VHS tapes. Here is my solution: it works for me most of the time on my recorder, and could work on yours. Just give it a try and see if it helps.

1. Turn on DVD recorder, put in blank disk.
2. Wait for the disk to format.
3. When it is ready, flip the input on the DVD-R to what ever you have your DVR plugged into.
4. UNPLUG the AV jacks that run into the DVR-R.
5. Start recording on the DVD-R.
6. Let run for a few seconds.
7. plug the AV jacks from your DVR back into the DVD-R
8. On the DVR, start the program you want to transfer.
9. now let the DVR and DVD-R alone until finished (you may want to leave the TV on for monitoring.)
10. When finished, stop, and don't forget to finalize the disk.
Congratulations, you've now bypassed the copy protection from your DVR!

One my DVD recorder, it only checks for MacroVision the first few seconds of recording. So if you are playing the movie, then hit record, it catches it right away. If you start the recorder BEFORE the macro vision comes on the DVD recorder will give up looking for MacroVision, and will just record as normal.

Also, google your DVD recorders' model number. There may be a firmware "hack" that will completely remove the MacroVision search. There is one for my machine, but I haven't done it. My method works just as good and I don't need to worry about "don't fix what isn't broke."

Hope that helps!

I have a panasonic dvd recorder. I was concerned when I signed up for dish a while ago that I would not be able to burn dvd's off a dvr. I run through a receiver and have never had any problems burning anything for the 3 months I have had dish...

I have a Sony DVD burner and I cant record anything off of the DVR if it was from a pay channel. Stuff I recorded from HBO preview wont record to the DVD player. I looked into it and found out it has something to do with only being able to record once. Since it is already copied onto the DVR it cant be copied again.
