DISH Network Satellite TV to Premiere Si TV, First American Latino Television Network in English
LOS ANGELES & LITTLETON, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2003-- EchoStar Communications Corporation (Nasdaq:DISH) announced today that DISH Network(TM) will add Si TV(TM) to its "America's Top 150" programming package when the network launches this summer.
Si TV is a new English-language, Latino-themed network featuring culturally relevant programming that targets the growing young Latino and multi-cultural TV audience. The company has distinguished itself as the leading producer of English-language, Latino-themed television programming with shows such as the highly rated "The Brothers Garcia," an original family comedy narrated by John Leguizamo, which will soon debut its fourth season on Nickelodeon. Among planned Si TV Network programs are first-run episodes of the talk show "Cafe Ole," the stand-up comedy showcase "Funny Is Funny!," and Si TV's annual "Latino Laugh Festival."
"Our customers will be pleased to know that DISH Network is the first to offer Si TV nationwide," said Michael Schwimmer, senior vice president of Programming at EchoStar. "Si TV complements DISH Network's expansive lineup of programming for Latinos, especially since the majority of Latinos view English-language programming."

It's another one of those heavily request channels (like CNBC World) :D
Where is Trio and Oxygen?
Don't get me wrong I like having channels added but I wish the channels were channels I have heard of. :)

To be honest I have never heard of Si TV until I read the press release. :)
I will be the first to admit that I have been known to watch Telemundo and Univision without knowing any spanish. They have some hot women on those Spanish Channels. :D

Don't get me wrong I like having channels added but I wish the channels were channels I have heard of. :) I think we all have to remember that Latinos just passed blacks as the largest minority group in the country. I believe that there is a market for this station and that just because we haven't heard of it doesn't mean there isn't.

I never herd of it either before reading the press release, does not sound like it will be available until summer. From what I read it sounds like it will be a good addition, Trio and Goodlife would be nice too.

I had heard of this becoming available about two weeks ago, thought that Dish would put it in one of the Latino packages. I am very glad to hear it will be added to AT150 pack. I happen to like the Latino culture, I have had great vacations both in Mexico and Puerto Rico and as others have said I sometimes watch Telemundo and Univision though I speak just a little broken Spanish.

I won't mind having this channel. I watch Uni and Gala from time to time. I watch mainly for the Spanish commercials and the oh so incredible looking women :D

It would be nice if the audio on Univision and Galavision were available in English as well as Spanish. I would think it would be possible using the language option if the stations have an English language feed available.
Personally I think that Charlie got it all wrong. His customers were demanding the YES Network...not SI!!

I think you have it wrong. Only a few people care about YE$. There are many more latinos out there to view this channel.

I am sorry to reply this way. Univision, Telemundo, Galavision, or Telefutura are not that great. First their PQ is horrible as it is on most of Latino Channels. Their programming is not that great. Their prime time shows are spanish soap operas; these soap operas plots have very little drama and intelligence written into them. Most of the time, you can watch one episode and know how everything will end. Their news broadcast has always being secondary to any american news broadcast. Movies, forget about it. Local TV stations for latin american countries do a better job than they do. Original programs: very little. The only type of programs that they consider originals are games or music show programs.
The best station I have found is the Spain channel, TVE, and MTV en Espanol, cnn en espanol, fox en espanol and another video music channel (I do not remember right now). Their programming is very good but the PQ again falls into the same category as the others.

Along with Si it would be nice to get Sur and H-TV. I supose I could get both of the last two by subscribing to one of the Latino packages but I would like it in the AT150. I used to watch H-TV when it was a FTA on DVB mpeg. I would like to get Sur to take the place of Noti-Colombia and Canal Caracol. I don't know why the packagers think that if you're Anglo your not interested in other cultures and they segregate the programming. Is there anyway to get Sur and H-TV ala carte (silly question because I know the answer)? anyway, I'm glad we're getting some other programming although I, too, would like improved PQ and vote to get rid of the shop at home channels (I'll duck as I say-- )and the endless number of sports channels.

I don't understand why this does not get added to Dish Latino Dos or Dish latino max. The packages for bilingual families. That's probably where most of the potential viewers are.

It may be where the most obvious viewers are but they are missing out on others that aren't primarily Spanish speakers. After all they include Univision and Galavision in AT150.

Rumor has it that this channel will be available in Dish Latino Max, but not Dish Latino Dos. My source has a 70% track record so far.

I've forwarded this to all my Latino friends at work. They seem to be excited. Some of them even said they're going to cancel cable and get DISH.
I wish I could have gotten this channel on D* though. Being a fluent spanish speaker I sometimes watch the few Latino channels I get to watch football (what you guys call soccer) and some of the news. The Latino perspective on news is a bit different from the English speaking news media. It would be nice to get that in English as well. I am wondering if Si TV will have news coverage or is it a strictly entertainment type channel?
