View Full Version : OTA to 622 TV2
Hi, I know there have been many topics about this, but I just need some confirmation. I recently bought a sharp 1080p lcd tv that I connected to TV2 via my 622 which is connected to tv1. I would like to add an ota antenna to tv2, but the problem is that the tv only has one ant/cable input. Would I need to buy a diplexer something like this, and how much if any signal loss would there be? Thanks for any help.

NO - Diplexers are only used when you are combining the signal from your dish down a common wire with a signal from your OTA antenna. The Signal that comes out of the TV2 outputs is OTA / cable RF signal - just like any ordinary TV signal (it's also not digital nor HDTV).
If you want to combine OTA with the TV2 output, you need a combiner .

Just set you 622 to output to TV2 on a channel not used by OTA. Then use a standard cable splitter in reverse to combine the antenna and TV2 signal going into the second TV. You do not need a diplexer, just a splitter for this. The signal loss would be about 4db.
Another quick question, I usually don't get monster cable products because they are expensive, but this seems like a good product. Is it any good, and how grainy would the picture be for the 622?

I paid under a 2 bucks for the last splitter I bought.
Im just mainly concerned about not losing any picture quality...

The BB splitter shows a 3.5db loss...I'm guessing the $2 one at Home Depot would be about 0.5 db worse (i.e. around 4db). Now it just comes down to how much you want to spend for that .5 db....that's up to you (of course if you have lots and lots of cash you could probably shave another couple tenths of a db off that 3.5 for a couple hundred bucks)
Alright, I'll try the Home Depot one out. Thanks for the help
