View Full Version : How to determine which channel is Tuner 1

On my series 2 the only way I can know which channel is on which tuner is to pull the coax. To facilitate this I have substituted RG59 "slide-on" F-connector cables, which, in my case, work just fine. Just as I expected.

Why you ask do I care? Because I have a hard time keeping track after I establish the fact (I get tired of writing in my lab notebook) and I need to know this information to further my knowledge of the 6.3e reboot problem.

Is there some clue in some menu I haven't tried that displays this information?

I'm not aware of any simpler way to know which channel is on which tuner. But what does this have to do with 6.3e "reboot problem"?

I'm not aware of any simpler way to know which channel is on which tuner. But what does this have to do with 6.3e "reboot problem"?

It appears to be a "buffer overflow"-like problem related to DLB, perhaps DLB tuner 2. Probably related to something "reset" during the 3 am Service Data Download (have forgotten whether the latter is Satellite or phone) not the "Refresh" signal. Taken me 20 days to begin to understand the problem. Not the software FU that causes it but, rather, how I can mitigate it on my series 2 units even though I have 6.2 HDD for both units. The bold because all Series 2 units apparently don't reboot.

I am only doing this as an intellectual exercise based on 30 years of troubleshooting electronics to the component level - super tech. :D And 14 years of retirement which has left me quite bored with another 10 or 15 years to go.

Sounds like an interesting theory. Keep us posted on what you learn.

I think there is a code so your tv screen will display which programs are on which tuners. The codes are available in this forum.

I received a PM which provided a code which may display this information. May because the font is too small. So I will spend some time trying to find a solid background that provides maximum legibility.

So I just needed to display it on the 50" DLP instead of the 21" ancient CRT.
Displayed in lower left corner:
Mode: LIVETV || Input 0: Live 864 FOCUS || Input 1: Live 2
Input 0 is SAT 1 and Input 1 is SAT 2. FOCUS is the channel displayed. It jumps to the right of Live 2 when swap channels.

What's the code to display this? I thought this was removed from v6.2 and later?

Select-Play-Select-last 8 seconds or whatever that key is. Never realized it actually did anything. Doesn't do anything I would ever have any use for. Like the Thumb keys.

Hard to remove ((S-P-S-InstantReplay-S - Toggles a Status display in the bottom right corner.)) from the screen. And it is on the bottom left.
((S-P-S-9-S - Toggles the Clock display in the bottom right corner.)) And switches to channel 9. And the clock appears and disappears at a regular rate.

Didn't try these.
((S-P-S-Pause-S - Toggles the fast disappear of the Play bar.)) Assume this is Progress bar.
((S-P-S-3-0-S* - Toggles 30 second skip mode.)) Read about this in the distant past.

If your Tivo is like my HR10-250 then you just hit the Info Button and it pops up and shows you what is on Tuner 1 and then you can Toggle Down to the next tuner to see what is on Tuner 2. At that point you can select either one to go to that tuner's station.

Do you not have this function?

I don't know anything about HR10s.

The Info button on MY Samsungs displays the Info screen which tells me the channel number and the channel name of the channel being view along with a synopsis of the program. There is nothing on the displayed screen indicating which Tuner is being used.

Well it does that very nicely on the HR10-250. Sorry couldn't help.

This is not what the original poster is asking. What you're describing is switching between the 'active' tuner and the 'background' tuner. But you have no idea which physical tuner (or physical coax cable) you're watching. The 'active' tuner will always be first in the last, and the 'background' tuner will always be second. When you switch to the other, they reverse order in the info screen.
Is that clear as mud now?;)
