Me again lol
Before I call D* and try to get the # I figured id ask here. I have a feeling my installer wont run the cable where and how I want it. Do yall know if the installer will maybe just leave me a bunch of extra wire so I can run it myself? Being it would be easy on him I would think he would but I dont know if there are rules they have to follow. know he would probably have to connect it to the box so i figure he can just run it though the window and i will fix everything when he leaves.

The correct answer is supposed to be no he won't. Because if you have problems making the connections or hte receiver won't activate or whatever, he will have to come back out and possibly get a "charge back". Which will cost him money. IIRC i have seen where some have posted that the installer will leave some parts, but i wouldn't count on it.

If you have some kind of custom wiring to be done, you might want to do it before the install day and have everything ready. The installer will do "standard" wiring, but things like fishing wires thru walls, etc would be an extra charge. He/she would probably be very happy if you had that done in advance, if thats what you want to do.

Am I able to tell them where I want the dish to go? not to sound dumb but it can go on the the roof right, will he run the wire down the roof or through the rood into the attic? Ok here is how it needs to be run so would he do this? Through the roof, across to the other side of the attic, out and down the outside wall along the bring, into the crawl space went then back up through the floor. Any chance of that happining?

Doubt it.. more like down the side of the house and either thru the basement or around the outside..

we're paid meagrely and I would love to do everything right, it's your house after all and it should be done right. unfortunately the time it takes brings this job to way below minimum wage if i tried that, so no the technician will most likely not run the wires in any special way *for free* our company has custom charge hourly rates where the customer can pay an hourly rate for that. but when I get 7 upgrades in a day, thats not gonna happen, and no i'm not kidding, 7 of them, 7, not service calls, upgrades. 7 of them

why not just on the other side? I wont go into an attic if I dont have to, not unless I can use your shower while you wash my clothes

Well it can be run along the side of the house but unless he drills through the brick into the living room then the only option is to go under the house. I dont see why they wont just leave alot of extra cable and run it through the window to hook it up and get it running then ill fix it when they leave. Will they drill through the wall for free? if not what the crap is the point of the installation??

since 1995 I have had my satellite dish about 3 or 4 different places, I have bought 7 sony receivers and most of the time they would give me a new dish, evertime they would come out with a newer model I would get it, untill one day it dawned on me I couldn't keep up with them, but when they come out to hookup my hd I ask the installer for new rg6 wire, he said I had better wire than he did, and I ask him to give me about 50ft and I would replace and he would not, now after 1o plus yrs. would you think rg6 wire would weaken, all he had to do was walk to the end of my deck and there is the post at eye level, I took the old dish off he sled the new one on and alined it, came in the house and switched the receiver, now that's a pretty easy install. (but I didn't tip him)
