I have just ordered a Model 6000 from www.dishdepot.com today. I am going to connect it to a Panasonic 42" SD Plasma. I do have a question about the connection.
Currently I have my DVD player connected to the Plasma via the component cables. My AV receiver does not have a component switch. The Panasonic Plasma does have a RGB DB15 input, and the E* 6000 has a DB15 RGB output.
My question is: Is there any difference between using the Component output vs the RGB output from the 6000? Are all of the features shared, or are there any limitations by using one or the other?
Also, can I use a standard PC Monitor cable to connect the two?
Thanks,
Donald O'Brien
If you ask 10 people you will probably get a dozen opinions about this.
There shouldn't be a noticable difference between the RGB & Component Video connections as long as both inputs are wideband & support 1080i/720p.
An S-VGA DB15 cable from CompUSA (or wherever) should work fine.

On my mitsubish 55905 it only supports 640x480 60hz if you use the RGB connector. You can't feed it HDTV resolution signals. Don't know about other TVs.

Well, the manual says that the Panasonic Plasma supports the following:
=============================
VGA display
VGA
SVGA, SXGA, UXGA ············· (compressed)
Horizontal scanning frequency 15.5 - 110 kHz
Vertical scanning frequency 48 - 120 Hz
PC signals
=============================
I'll have to just give it a try when it arrives.

Yep, give it a try. It shouldn't hurt that type of display as those scanning ranges are ok for HD. It just may not show a picture if it is 1080i or 720p as those resolution don't fit into VGA, SVGA, SXGA, or UXGA. WXGA is starting to be a standard on the higher end plasmas (1280x720) for native 720p display so setting output to 720p on the 6000 can then feed one of those displays. As you said, best thing is to try it and see if it works.

I've connected mine both ways to a DLP HD projector and they both work the same.

I picked up a cable from CompUSA today. I tried it out with my laptop. It worked, I can't say that I had the proper resolution set, but it work none the less.
The 6000 should arrive later this week. I just wanted to get some reassurance incase someone else here is also using the DB15 VGA/RGB connector on their 6000.
