Hi. Several weeks ago, my D* installer came out to install my dish. I'm in a multi-unit building, and the dish was installed on the roof of the buliding, and the wiring was passed-through to the electrical rooms which are located on every floor of the building. Each of my rooms with cable has two cable jacks per room (two jacks, one right below the other, on the same plate). Since I'm wired in 3 rooms, I have 6 cable wires leading from the electrical room into my unit.

Initially, the plan was to keep basic cable on one of the jacks and use the other for D*. Two of my rooms were getting HD-DVRs, and one was getting a standard receiver. In the rooms with the HR-21s, the installer tried to diplex the satellite signal coming out of the satellite jack, and then use two wires out of the diplexer to connect to the HR-21s. This configuration was ideal becasue it let me keep my cable, which offers certain channels I can't get on D* and serves as a backup in the event D* goes out.

When the installer left, I noticed I was having problems getting certain channels on the HR-21s, and when he came back to look, he told me it was likely becasue there was interference from the basic cable, because the two wires were carrying channels on the same frequencies. (I admit that I'm not knowledgeable as to the technical x's and o's.) He told me that I'd have to give up the idea of having the basic cable in the rooms with the HR-21s, and once he reconfigured it, I had no more D* problems.

My question is: Does anyone know how I can work this to keep cable and my HR-21s in the same rooms without running an additional wire? I've heard talk of single-wire multi-switches...would this do the trick? If so, would I need one per room or a single one in the electrical room feeding it into my unit?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

Diplexing can work if you put the B Band Convertors right off the Multiswitch, or last least before the actual diplexing. If you put the BBC on the receiver the diplexing won't work

I and others here have done it and it generally works

Your cable TV is the same as the OTA in his example.

yeah I did the bbc diplexer trick in my house but I dont do it in the field, it violated the contract with directv even though it does work, up to you, make sure it's not in a place prone to any weather. and I cant believe the dumbass tried a diplexer on an hd signal. in our office that would be similar to trying a cable signal on the reciever, just in case it's compatible

sorry to ruin your day but quite a few of us have been testing them for a while.. and some are leaking out of the Directv supply chain too..

I just want to make sure I'm clear on this, and I apologize if this was already answered in the link above.

I have two cable jacks on each wall plate. Right now, both are being used to feed my HR-21 boxes, but I want to free up one jack for cable and diplex the other line to feed both inputs on the HR-21.

If I were to take a single D* wire from the jack, connect a single B-Band converter, and then diplex the resulting wire into two wires, those should both work with my HR-21?

Thanks again!

No you need to go to the where the installer installed the multiswitch. I will assume that is in the electrical closet. on one of the lines comeing from the multi switch to the jack in your apartment place a BBC there then go into the sat side of a diplexer. On the other leg of the Diplexer attach your cable line. Now back in your apartment the line that is diplexed put another diplexer on there. The take the sat leg and connect it to a sat input on the HR21 you do not need a BBC here as you have one earlier in the run. Hook the Antenna leg up to your TV.
