I have a question about the digital output from my Direct Tivo unit HDVR2.

It seems that although the guide displays the DD logo on a local broadcast, the output from the digital output is still a two channel PCM stream.

Do the local broadcasts that are supposed to be in DD get broadcasted in DD on DirecTV? I live in the SF Bay Area if that matters.

DD doesn't necessarily mean DD 5.1. You may be getting a stereo DD PCM stream.

Right ... Dolby Digital can be, for example, 2.0 3.0 4.0 4.1 5.1 6.1 or even pi-square-root of infinity times the speed of light.

No local channels are in DD on DirecTV or Dish for that matter (excluding CBS HD). On premium movie channels most programming will be in DD2.0, big name movies and orginals will be in 5.1.
