First of all. Lost and Idol did no record tonight. rrrgh.
After Idol did not record, I tuned into Lost to check if it was recording or not, there was a large red dot with an X through it, and a red star, both positioned in the space where there should have been the "R" recording symbol. And Lost was not recording. And the 8pm episode did not record..
What are the red dot/X and red star symbols? I have never seen them?

It means they aren't going to record when you see that symbol in the ToDo List.
Did you have other items set to record, you must have had a conflict somewhere.
FYI, Idol ran until 9:01 tonight. What else were you recording tonight?
I think the star means the show scheduled to record comes from an "autorecord" request. The X over the R means it will not record because there is a conflict.

* means that the program was chosen to be recorded because of an autorecord setting, not a regular series link.
X means the program is not going to be recorded because both tuners are being used to record other things that are higher in your priority list.
By the way, Lost was a repeat tonight. New episodes don't start until tomorrow....
You may want to go into the prioritizer and rearrange some things. Also, I recommend using a regular series link for programs like lost, unless you are trying to record repeat or syndicated shows for something that are on MULTIPLE channels...

but hopefully not too old to ask a new question, rather than post a whole new topic...
I had a scheduling conflict (3 shows to record) so I changed the priorities of the shows because one of them really didn't matter all that much. Anyway, the show now in second priority still shows a red X. Does this just take some time to update?

Yes it will take up to a few hours to update.

X means the program is not going to be recorded because both tuners are being used to record other things that are higher in your priority list.
It will also show the X if you have 'first run only' set and the upcoming show is flagged as a repeat, it doesn't always mean tuner conflict.

no waiting like with tivo....here you get instant responses! (just not instant updates)

I would rather wait that five or so seconds like with Tivo and have that peace of mind you get with the instant update and conflict notification. Ya, you don't have to wait, but you also have to go back hours later to weed through everything looking for conflicts.
