Does anyone ever get e-mail messages on their receiver?

Just wondering if anyone ever gets any messages on their receiver. In the 6 years I've been with D*, I think I can count the total number of messages from them on 1 hand. And I'm not sure why this is.

I would think this would be a great tool for them to inform us of upcoming Freeviews (which would result in increased subscriptions), notify us of new channels or special events, etc.

If it weren't for my effort to log on sites like this one or go to D*'s site to find out this info, I would be oblivious to new channels, subscription offers, etc. The receivers have a message option, why don't they make use of it?

FYI, I have an H20-100 model, if that makes a difference.

Yea, I haven't seen one since getting my -100. I remember I used to get them on my old tivo boxes to remind me to make my daily call.

I used to get them regularly on my old legacy boxes to inform me of upcoming free previews and such but that was years ago and I can't remember getting one in years now. I do think it's a tool that could be put to good use but for some reason DirecTv ignores it.

I used to get messages all the time but now I can't remember the last time I recieved a message. I think it has been over a year.

In 2007 I got on an email on my receivers about NASCAR Hotpass, an old Starz freepreview, and about the 101; that's about it.

But you got these in your e-mail on your computer, you did not get these on your receiver, right? (The OP is talking about messages on the receiver).

The closest I've seen to message on my HR2x's is Showcases (or whatever they call those) and I don't even notice them unless I actually go into that screen - there is nothing that points out I've received a new one. The only time I remember seeing those on a straight-up DirecTV receiver is my OLD OLD OLD RCA's. I've had DirecTiVos for so long, though, that those days are far behind me.

The DirecTiVos would (and still do) receive messages, but I haven't noticed anything of the sort on the HR2x's.


And before anyone at DirecTV gets any bright ideas (though I agree it would be great to get these kinds of messages about free-views, etc.), please make the indicator an envelope-type icon in the menus or something and not have the light ring do a pretty little "you've got a message" dance - keep the message indicators away from the lights on the front of the receivers! :)

Go figure, I post a poll & within 2 weeks, I get a message on my box! Yesterday, I noticed the message icon. I had a message notifying me of the free preview for NASCAR Hotpass this weekend for the Daytona 500.

I used to get them all the times years ago and have to say I don't miss receiving them 99% of the time there was no useful information for me anyways.

Other than the one about NASCAR, nothing I've noticed in the past year. And if one was there, the indicator isn't really very visible and easily overlooked.:nono2:

Same here... nothing in the past year or so until the recent NASCAR one.

It would be nice if D* used the mailbox to notify customers of new channels or free view events. I mean, what the heck is the purpose of the mailbox if not to notify customers of stuff like this? Many of us don't get bills mailed to us anymore.

I noticed on my HR20-700 and my Samsung DirecTiVo just last night that both had a email message regarding the free preview for the NASCAR race on Feb 17th.

Same here. I received the messages about Hot Pass. I think that is the first one in month's.

On bad thing it is a royal PIA to look at them. To much button pushing!

I bet the folks at DirecTV have been sending fewer messages to the boxes because people on the newer equipment ignore or don't see the mailbox icon. And people are ignoring or not seeing the mailbox icon because the newer generation of boxes have such poorly designed mailbox access--too many buttons to push, as another posted noted.

I think my first receiver was a second or third generation RCA unit and checking messages was simple: just one click off the 'info' banner!

I remember in the old days they used to have a red blinking light when you had mail, I think they should put them up when you are going to get an update, or anything like that.
