Had an HR21 installed yesterday and, since, my HD programming is quite what it was before in terms of sharpness occasional pixelization, and overall graininess/flickering. I went in and checked signal testing and find that I have the following sats:

99, 101, 103(a), 103(b), 110, and 119

The signals strength on available transponders for all sats except 99 and the two 103’s are all upper 80’s to 100 (mostly mid-90's) For the other three sats, here are the results:

103(a)
1-8 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 100, n/a, n/a
9-16 n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, 98, 0
17-24 73, 0, 48, 42, 0, 0, 99, 0
25-32 n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a

103(b)
1-8 70, 59, 69, 58, 69, 56, 65, 57
9-16 69, 57, 69, 58, 71, 60, n/a, n/a
17-24 n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a
25-32 n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a

99(b)
1-8 95, 0, 93, 0, 88, n/a, n/a, n/a

These results are much lower than I recall them being before the install. Is there something amiss here such that I should be calling D* and having the dish repositioned? I am wondering if the guy moved the dish while attaching the additional cable. These numbers are rather a jumble to me and I would appreciate some the input from someone with more technical knowledge.

Azimuth 133, Elevation 42, Tilt 115

103(a)(b) are both too low, doubt low enough to be causing your picture troubles in perfect weather, although it is possible. You do need to have D* come back out and fix their poor install.

Crap, this is what I figured. Have to set aside half a day to call D*, get cutoff a couple of times, go through three CSR's to get one that will understand the issue and agree to send someone out, etc., etc., etc.

Actually, I think I will try the installer first. (?)

I called the installation company (Ironwood) and they said they'd have the technician call me back. I asked the installer to double check the dish before he left but he said, no, the dish woul dnot have moved when he attached the new cable and that his installation did not "cover" dish adjustment. I told him the HD didn't look as good as it had with the H20 and he claimed my three year old Mitsubushi set probably wasn't up to the capabilities of the new receiver. Yeah right. Also, told him if it didn't improve that I'd be calling D*. Guess he would have saved himself time just by running a quick check to begin with.

He should not have left your installation with 103(b) signals in the 50's. They should be mostly all in the 90's, like every other satellite. You'll have pixelation ("flickering"?) on your national HD channels in any type of bad weather. That said, in the absence of pixelation, the PQ is not effected by signal strength. So perhaps there's some other issue.

Under the TV Resolutions tab of the HDTV page in the Setup menu have you checked to be sure that all the resolution boxes are checked? When you see a picture that you don't think is up-to-snuff, what resolution light is lit on your receiver? What type video connection are you using between the receiver and your TV?
