View Full Version : 2nd room DVR line run via diplexor ??
if all rooms are already cable-ready, can i diplex the in line back out from the 2nd tv output port back to the junction box and then reverse diplex to the 2nd tv thereby not having to run a new line from the DVR to the 2nd tv ??? confusing huh  thanks in advise for any help here...

No. A diplexer will only allow you to combine another signal source such as cable or off air antenna onto the sat line. It won't work for two sat feeds.
What you need is:
A second line run to that room
or
Stackers/destackers

what is a stacker, never herd of it ?
What you want is to feed a second TV set by feeding the rf output of the DirecTV receiver at the first TV sets location to the second TV, correct? You are not talking about trying to turn a single coax run into two coax to feed the inputs to a DVR?
What type of installation will you have, SD or HD? How many receivers will you have total, and where will they be located? Will there be a DirecTV receiver at the second TV location?
It might be possible to do what you want, depending on the specifics.

My bad, I think I misread your original post.
For example:
You have a DVR (not HD) in the livingroom
You have a TV in the garage but no box, but there is a cable line there.
Then yes, you can use the DVR to feed the garage TV.
Take the RF output (Ch 3/4) and use a simple splitter to split it if needed.
Take one of the legs of the splitter and use a short jumper to the TV port on the diplexer.
Make another short jumper to go from the sat port of the diplexer to the sat in (doesn't matter tuner 1/2) on the DVR.
Take the original sate line and connected it to the remaining port on the diplexer (may be labled in or sat/tv)
You are now done at the living room TV
Now off to your cable closet or wherever all the lines come togeter.
Find the line that is feeding the sat line that was used above and connect it to the sat/tv port on the diplexer.
Make a short jumper to go from the ground block or multiswitch (whatever you case may be) to go to the sat port on the diplexer.
Take the cable line feeding the garage TV and connect it to the TV port on the diplexer.
Put the garage TV on ch 3/4 depending on what you have the DVR set to.
Now you should have the same program on both the living room and garage TVs.

If you really have Dish Network, and not DirecTV, I honestly don't know. It depends on the bandwidth Dish uses to get the signal from the dish to the DVR as to whether or not you can diplex a signal back out. You would need to ask that question over in one of the Dish forums.

Yes, you can use diplexors to back-feed the TV2 signal down the same line as the incoming sat signal to feed your second TV. It is done thousands of times per day by DishNetwork installers and is an approved method.
The confusion here is that you posted your question on a DirecTV discussion board...
