Interesting slant....

Would federal regulators allow ANY ONE company to own the two companies' combined assets?

I certainly hope they're not trying to buy Hughes...

I suspect that as business partners, they'd get along better than we can currently imagine. They're both tough negotiators. And while they may hate each other now, but they both want to dominate the skies -- The enemy of my enemy is my friend......

Agreed ,

I think Echostar is angry that they did not get their way with the merger and now they are beginning a propaganda war in the media ;)

I`m quite sure at this point that Ergen is afraid of the power Rupert will have if he purchases DirecTV !

Just the opposite, they tried this before, remember? The deal imploded in a hail of lawsuits that Charlie won. He got the slots from the scum Murdoch that made Dish what it is today.

Murdoch get into bed with the poker player? He's too smart to do that twice...!

Lee635, your post makes alot of sense to me. As frustrating as Charlie can be at times I still have alot of respect for him as a business man. Frapp, I doubt he is wasting his time with propaganda.
Charlie has lots of money and I feel he is trying to position his company for the future, no matter what sort of creative business plans it may be.

He may actually see this just as good or better than the previous merger plan. By having some help it could be as if he had some ''backup'' and support. This could also be his own way of having any part of DirecTv. Perhaps 3 going together in some sort of way would be better than two for them. Two tough negotiaters could be good for the three companies that may become two supported by each other.
