I am getting that on mine, and it started after the latest upgrade in software. I did the reset, and it still appears -even when the res is shopwing at 1080i.

One way to get rid of it is to turn off 480i and 720p as supported resolutions.
I am moving this to the HR20 forum.

As Stuart Said.
Go to your HDTV settings, and de-select output resolutions that you don't want on your system.
I don't understand the issue here - why would there be such a warning if 1080i is being used? Does this warning also appear if you have "native" or "as broadcast" selected? What if I want my TV to do the upscaling rather than the receiver?

What I meant was, why is this message being shown at all? What's the point?

Some people only have the capability of using a 720 not 1080 because of the TV that they have. With that in mind users have selected 720 as the resolution to use on thier set. Now Directv started thinking for them and warning them with a message to tell the end user that they are not taking advantage of the higher resolution that is posible when viewing this particular channel and to consider using 1080, hence the message is displayed.

I have found that 1080i looks significantly better than 720p out of my DIRECTV receivers into my 720p plasma. I have no explanation for the difference.
When I go to a HD channel I get a message saying if i want a better hd pic. I need to set my res. to 1080i is there a way to stop this message.Short answer, go into settings and set resolution to 1080i. Long answer below.
The only time I have seen this popup was when neither 720p or 1080i were selected in resolutions. In that case the receiver is forced to send out a non-HD resolution and the popup is shown. If you have 720p selected it will downres 1080i to 720p, but won't show the popup. If you are outputting an HD signal(either 720p or 1080i) and getting the popup that is a bug.

My 2 smaller LCDs are 720p, and I see no difference when setting the HR20 to 1080i.

The warning should only appear if you have indicated that your TV can handle 1080i and you have the resolution set to a lower setting. Comes in handy when the great granddaughter pushes buttons on the remote or the HR2x--she often changes the resolution on me. :)
Cheers,
Tom

Correct. 1080 differences are seen on larger TV's.
