and i've searched, but I still can't get a concrete answer on it and the exact way I should go about this...House A permanent house, have cable and no dish....house b, have dish, total choice....only go to house b 2-3 times a year...would like to have a receiver at house A to use for a couple of reasons...

to order the sports packages, for more HD than my cable co. offers...(charter doesn't offer nba or nfl packages....Might end up cancelling cable if I like the satellite setup.

Questions are:

1. If I schedule a "move", they leave the dish, but what about the receiver....can I leave it as well?

2. Can I get one of the new dishes for mpeg4 installed at house A in the move assuming I agree to 2 yr extension?

3.Can I add HD receiver at house A and still use SD receiver (no HDTV @ House B) ok?

Lastly will there be a problem if I do cancel cable to add more receivers at house A in other bedrooms? (just had cable update coax ran through house....as it was the old kind.)

Thanks so much for replies in advance and sorry for complicated post.

1) You're supposed to leave the dish and take your receivers for a move - if the old receiver is leased and you don't bring it, DirecTV will want it back. Also, if you do the mover's connection thing, the old receiver won't work anymore if you swap it off the account with an upgrade.

2) If you have HD equipment or include an HD upgrade with the move, they'll install the 5lnb dish, otherwise they may just install the old dish

3) No problem mixing and matching SD and HD equipment, they all work on the new dishes

Not sure about your cable question - I guess it depends on the cable company's cancellation policies.

1. I am pretty sure the receivers are owned, as on the bill the only charges are for the total choice, and 4.99 for extra receiver, wouldn't there be a lease charge on there if this was the case? what if I didn't upgrade, just added an HD box, then (assuming they're owned) wouldn't they still work?

& the cable question wasn't about cancelling cable, (worded poorly) but more for adding extra boxes at house A if I DO cancel cable and need reception on my other tvs...thanks so much for helping!

When you use the movers progam they install a dish at the new house. They never even go to the old house. You are supposed to pack up the receivers and take them with you when you move. What happens if you don't - nothing. This whole house A, house B gets into a tricky area from a theft of service perspective though. Is it possible - absolutely. Is it legal/ethical/whatever - dunno.

As for adding more receivers at house A - you can add as many receivers as you want. it just costs $5/mo for each one + the cost to buy(lease) the receiver upfront.

so the old receivers and old dish will still work at house B as long as I dont use them simultaneously? (which wouldn't ever happen anyway). even though the address on file is not house B? thanks!

...if all your receivers are continuously connected to the same land-based telephone line, we can "mirror" programming to your additional TVs and charge you only the fee amount described in Section 2. You agree to provide true and accurate information about the location of your receivers. If we detect that any receiver is not regularly connected to a land-based telephone line, we may investigate and, if it is determined that the receiver is not at the location identified on your account, we may disconnect the receiver or charge you the full programming subscription price for the receiver.

Terms of service issues aside - Correct. You probably would not get any locals at house B though (unless house B happens to be in the same spot beam as house A)

What?? Are you a lawyer for Directv or something? I have 3 receivers in my house that have NEVER been hooked to a telephone line and they've been "mirrored" for over 6 years and I take those receivers to my vacation home with me every time I go. In NO way do I feel that I'm violating ANY agreement, since I pay for these receivers every month and they are only used by my family and myself.

Technically speaking, you can have each receiver hooked up to a different dish in different cities and (besides spot beams) the receivers will work the same as if they were connected to the same dish. I know people who have more than one dish at one location for logistics and other reasons. Therefore, any calls to D* to reactivate a receiver thats been off for a while (needs reauthorization) will work just fine no matter where you are.
