So, I just upgraded to a 22inch LCD monitor on my desktop. In my office, my HR21 plugs into an HDTV but also the RCA composite output goes to an X10 2.4ghz broadcaster which sends signals to my TV in the kitchen.

I'd like to use my old 19inc widescreen monitor in the kitchen. Is there a cheap way to take the yellow RCA composite video signal and just plug it into the VGA port on the monitor? Will it work? I see a $3 converter, but that doesn't mean the video will show. Any ideas? Most of the converters I see want to make it into a TV tuner (I don't need to do that) or make a PC show on a TV (also don't want to do that).

If the monitor doesn't expressly support composite video, it won't work. The first problem out of the blocks is that most monitors, whether LCD or CRT, don't scan down to NTSC video rates.

I did hook up the monitor with HDMI to DVI-D from the HR21 to it, and at 720p it looked fine (though not as nice as my HDTV). Does that mean it might work to change the RCA-yellow to DVI-D somehow?

Can't do that, Cap. The RCA output is analog. The DVI-D is digital. I've looked for analog video to digital video converters online and the cost would be prohibitive.

The only thing I could think of would be an upconverting VHS VCR might do it. Probably too expensive.

So I can use it as a TV connected to my HR21, but nothing lower. Hmmm... much to consider. Maybe if I play with brightness and stuff it'll do.

Oh, yes, it has VGA as well and component would likely work. But I have a composite signal. :)
