Does anyone have any news on when FNC is going to broadcast HD? Please stay on subject, I don't want anyones opinion on the channel. Thank you.

No, we don't have anymore of an idea of when FNC HD is coming today as the guy who posted asking about it yesterday or the day before that or the day before that.
I don't know how accurate the info was, but in one of the other threads someone said Q3 of this year.

The answer is they've said sometime in 2008. Who knows when?

I know, that's why I asked to please stay on subject. I wanted to do a search but couldn't seem to find a search option for this board... ??
Thanks for the input and the welcome :)

Fox is the best about this, as mentioned in an old thread title. I can't remember what it was I was watching on Fox News last night - maybe it was O'Reilly - but there were two beautiful blond babes discussing serious policy matters with the host. Beats the pants off of Bill Bennett or James Carville anyday.

Anyone know an easy way to see how many Fox News threads have been started and how many were locked?!?! I can remember approx 4 or 5 for sure. Thankfully this one has started out clean.
By the way, I know someone said Q3 in the other thread, but that seems a bit far out considering all of the revamping they have done with their sets. Perhaps they fear the fall out of seeing Greta's botched plastic surgery in HD.

Ive mentioned before that FOX -west palm beach, shows FOX NEWS SUNDAY in HD. Which is proof that the Washington DC studio (home to SPECIAL REPORT WITH BRIT HUME) is HD ready. I'd bet that the revamped FOX AND FRIENDS and FOX REPORT are HD ready. I thought FNC may flip the switch today (Super Tuesday) to show off their election set---very high tech.

Just as with a lot of FOX's reality shows, it is possible that this show is actually Anamorphic LB Crop of 480p content. I have watched Fox News Sunday and it sure seems to me that the content is not 720p or 1080i.
Does anyone else feel the same way? If this is the case, then the set is not setup with HD cameras.

Please keep all personal feelings about FNC and all other news channels out of this thread. Please keep this simply a thread about when FNC will go HD. There's been too many other threads that have been closed because comments like that snowball into a huge fight.
On Fox & Friends last week, maybe Thur. or Fri, Steve Doocy said it would be soon. Geraldo was the guest and commented about the show being in HD. Steve D. said that it wasn't in HD yet, but that it would be in HD soon, very soon.
I read somewhere else that it may go HD in March.

I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, 16:9 SD is obviously better than 4:3 SD. However, 16:9 SD could lead to complacency, with people thinking it's "good enough" and skimping on true HD. The difference between 4:3 SD and 16:9 HD is completely obvious, but the difference between a good 16:9 SD upconvert and true 16:9 HD is much less obvious. Most people believe that Fox's 16:9 SD programming is actually HD.

I can see that side. It is really hard to tell when you just use 16:9 SD...where it is almost annoying is when you mix SD and HD on the same program. NBC golf coverage and local news where studio cams are HD and remote cams are SD. You can DEFINITELY tell the differences.

Fox should really go HD quickly. I wonder why they haven't done it yet...
(money or personnel problems?)
I watched nothing but CNN HD last night. The HD picture(including the graphics)
was simply amazing.... (even when I project it to 133-inch) To be honest, I
don't care rat's [rear end] about politics or the election, but I was just mesmerized
by the HD picture.... then CNN HD switched coverage to SD picture with big
"HD" on either side, soe I went to sleep.(yeah, right... I popped a Japanese
Blu-ray porn movie into my PS3) Come to think of it, I rarely watch anything
unless it's in HD... heck, I'll even watch infomercials if they are shot in HD... :D

I agree. A similar discussion was had regarding the Austrialian Open Tennis on ESPN2 and the Tennis Channel. It was 16:9 SD and looked good and people raved about it. However, it could have been better!

Within a few years this won't be an issue. It still costs a goodly amount to switch over to HDTV. But as the price of equipment comes down and HD becomes the standard, EDTV, which is what we are talking about here, will become unnecessary.

Wait a minute.... I'm sure Fox can get a tax break for converting to HD. At the
very least, they can write it off as business expenses.
In addition, I don't think Fox can afford not to upgrade to HD as soon as possible.

Quote from an October 2007 article with Greg Ahlquist, senior network director and project manager of the digital newsroom integration for FNC and FBN:
With FBN up and running in HD, News Corp. has begun exploring doing HD at FOX News, he said. “We are full speed ahead. It’s tough living in both worlds. I don’t think it is an opportunity to pause,” Ahlquist said.
They are definitely working on FNC HD.

A tad off-topic from FNC but this post made me wonder. We're watching American Idol on Fox in HD (OTA) for the first time and the picture is spectacular. If it's not the real deal HD-wise, they have me fooled. The picture is as good as anything I've seen on FoodHD, DiscoveryHD or any like that.

Correct. It's easy for me to discern this on my 50" 1080p plasma. Fox News Sunday ain't HD.
I'd like to know why Fox doesn't use FBNHD for simulcast of some of the more popular shows. For example, they show infomercials on FBNHD Saturday morning when they could be showing the first-run Saturday morning money programs on FNC (Forbes on Fox, Cashin' In, etc.). But I suppose that would be "splitting" one revenue source instead of "adding" the infomercial revenue in the same time slot.

The PQ on DirecTV's feed of the Los Angeles FOX local went to crap a few weeks ago. Now with every jump cut between cameras, the picture pixelates. The same defect isn't present on the OTA feed. This started hapening around the time of the reported moving around of locals on the transponders a few weeks ago, but I don't know if it is related. Didn't notice it on the Superbowl broadcast but it has been present on last few week's American Idol broadcasts.

Haven't noticed that on my end. I am in SoCal and I watch live TV off OTA and record the SAT version. I have not noticed any pixelization or motion blur in Amercian Idol (which I am forced to watch by the wife).

I've wondered if they simply don't see it as a pressing matter. They're #1 so people are watching and that's all that matters to advertisers. Survivor still did extremely well in the ratings but it wasn't HD. People watched for content, not the PQ. Fox stepped up to the plate when it came to NFL coverage because, we have to assume, demand for football in HD was extremely strong. I may be speaking out of ignorance here but I can't help but think that the demand for news in HD is not nearly as strong as it was for sports.
I'm not saying that they would view HD as a "gimmick" but when you're doing well in the ratings, is it necessary? Just a thought.

If FOX News wants me to watch election coverage, they need to be in HD.

Same here, I just can't watch SD anymore even though I prefer FOX. There is one benefit. Campbell Brown is much easier on the eyes than Bill O'Rielly.:eek2:
The news shots of the FNC will still be mostly SD I expect, and that is probably why they haven't made the change any sooner, but they may not really understand why we watch F & F...the babes first and the brand of political commentary second...I don't know though maybe they do understand because they kept the coffee table short on their new set.
F&F First is the real gas these days with Alyson and Brian and sometimes Alyson and Steve as the only persons on the set...it is a hoot. I may not fully understand the D11 impact, but is D*'s current bandwidth at maximum capacity that they wouldn't be able to absorb the space of one additional channel? Its not a big deal to me if they are and we have to wait a few days or weeks for D11 to light up, but I have a hard time understanding they don't have room for one more channel.

That line of thinking is how we got progressively worse picture quality with the MPEG2 birds. I don't have any knowledge of how "full" D10 is, but if it is at capacity I personally would prefer that they wait to add new channels rather than increase compression on current ones.

Despite the rhetoric, DIRECTV's satellite capacity is nearly maxed out; it really doesn't have the room to add several HD channels now. That will change in September when its new HD satellite is operational.

Swammi says, again today, not until September.
Swammi has absolutely no information aside from the DirecTV press release, which did indeed say September. However, all signs point to new channels being added much sooner than that.
He gets his info from DBSTalk, doesn't he?

Sometimes. In this case, he didn't.
Suprise suprise, Fox News is now in HD on DirecTV. Quite interesting since there was no promos and nothing in the DirecTV newsletter.
