I tried the Customer Service feature on my 501 last night and it FINALLY worked. I don't know how much I'll use it but, it's nice to see it work.

Will this OpenTV stuff ever be implemented on the 6000?

You're right! I just tried mine and it works. The only thing is that the receiver must be hooked to a phone line. It dials out to get the information.

It's been said on past Charlie and Tech Chats, the 6000 will never get OpenTV.

I have no use for the customer support application, but I wish there was an option to turn off the green for showtime unlimited package. The one package I'm thinking about adding isn't even an option to add via the application, the MultiRegional Sports pack. If it was I might have got out the long phone cord and hook the box up and try it out. But then again it would be more trouble then it's worth. Not that its hard work plugging in a phone line, but I have my everything in my entertainment center hooked up with 3 foor or 6 foot cables and it's really tight in there.

My 501 will not dial out. It keeps saying try again later. I am hooked to a phone line and my caller id works fine.

Any one else having this?

My 4900 says something like "connection failed" when not connected to a phone line. I bet the "try again later" message means that the Dish phone switch is overloaded, not that there is a problem with the 501. Have you tried running the Diagnostic test (or whatever they call it) from the System Setup menu? It tests the phone connection and the ability to dial out.

(this is on my 508)
I ran across this just now while searching for a movie. The movie showed up on FLIX and had a green icon next to it, so I went to the guide and changed to my movie favorits list (setup to see if anything free is on) saw FLIX was green and figured it was a free preview or something so I selected it. Then it told me....
"This channel is available for immediate upgrade without a call! Find out more by selecting "Continue""

So I did and it took me to the interactive app and a screen popped up that thanked me for selecting the showtime unlimited, and told me that I couldn't view all the channels because I don't have a dish pointed at 61.5. Then I could "keep package" "remove package" or go "back".

And now the timer for ER just started so it kicked me out of the interactive app. ;)

I don't have a phone line close to the the receiver so I guess I won't get to use this feature. It seems pretty handy though.

Customer Service working on my 508, I know for a fact it was not working last night (as I ordered programming on my 4900 because the 508 did not have the customer service app running 24 hours ago.)

I'd say the Customer service app it mighty handy and probably the most valuable. Besides ordering programming the statements (previous, current and new activity) are valuable.

Follow up - pulling the smart card and rebooting fixed my problem. :)
