I just moved to a new apartment in the Oro Valley area outside of Tucson, AZ that is unable to get a signal from the OTA broadcast antennas that are located on the other side of a mountain. I hooked my TV up to the cable connection that pre-exists in the apartment and I am able to get ALOT of channels using the built in QAM/ATSC tuner. I am thinking this is because Comcast is not encrypting their digital channel lineup or something like that.

Anyway, my question is, since I can't get an OTA signal, is there anyway to merge the Cable channels into my Dish Network setup? I have a ViP 622 and I tried doing a simple channel scan with the Cable connected to where the OTA antenna use to be plugged into, but I've had no success so far.

Thanks in advance!

Nope, Same issue here, no QAM tuner in the ViP622, have to switch TV inputs to watch Cable.

Well that sucks. Any work around? Such as getting a stand alone Digital QAM tuner box or something? It hurts painfully not being able to record HD OTA broadcasts!

The 622/722 has an OTA reciever input, You CAN record OTA (ATSC) broadcasts just not cable (QAM)..I know of no workaround for recording QAM with these DVR's and don't think there is one.

maybe a better antenna will work for you. i know a mountain in the way could be a real problem, but there are other potential problems with the 622 tuner that can be alleviated with an improved (for the purpose) antenna.

How is your 622 hooked up to your TV? If you just want to watch and not record the cable channels, you can hook the cable up directly to your TV to utilize the QAM tuner and hook the 622 to the TV via HDMI or component. I have a similar setup on my bedroom TV (Comcast - QAM) and 211 via component.

He wants to record with the 622. That's the question. And the answer is no. The OTA tunner is only ATSC. :( Sorry.

There are ATSC modulators but they are expensive. Just google ATSC modulator.
