I've upgraded several TIVO's, and use external USB drives all around my home, but I'm new to eSATA.

Anyway, every eSATA drive and enclosure seems to support SATA and USB. Is there anything in particular I need to look for to get a compatible drive??

Also, it appears most come with a USB cable. Are eSATA cables readily available???

Anybody have a particular model, or ebay dealer, for a 750gb or 1TB drive, please let me know.

I use the Seagate 750 FA with mine and yes I had to get the eSata cable separately. Lots of people have been using the Seagate with success. A quick search may lead you to other successes.

However, most (all?) people have had incompatability problems using the Seagate Free Access Pro eSATA drives with the HR21s.

Do a Search on SATA and you will find plenty of info already posted. Also, you can do a Search on Enclosure and you will find more info and you may do as I did and get a Dual HD RAID Enclosure and run RAID 1 so you will have a backup drive if one fails.

THE SEARCH ENGINE IS YOUR FRIEND, DON'T BE AFRAID TO USE IT!!!

I purchased a Cavalry 1TB external drive from newegg & it seems to be working fine with my HR-21. It was cheaper than any of the bare 1TB drives that Newegg stocks. It also comes with the ESATA cable.

Only problem with it is the VERY bright blue LED on the front of it.

Monoprice.com is the best place to buy cables.
