View Full Version : New Playlist Option: VOD downloads into Folder

Currently, all VOD downloads--even multiple episodes of the same show--get dumped into the Play List outside of any folder, which rapidly clutters the Play List.

I propose adding an option to the Playlist Options menu that assigns all VOD content to a single folder.

Since "better is the enemy of good enough," it's important to keep this feature request simple in scope and semantically narrow so that it can be implemented with a minimum of time and effort. Once this base feature is added, incremental refinements can be added later (e.g., individual sub-folders for individual shows).

So, please:

Do not vote unless/until you have VOD enabled.
Do not withhold your approval because it's not the "ideal" (or even "next-to-ideal") approach the problem.

I wish we could make our own folders. I have a LG Plasma with a built in dvr and it allows you to make your own folders. I wish the HR20/21's would allow this.

Ouch! I learned about this yesterday when I downloaded a bunch of shows. I couldn;t completely the poll since my preferred action is not present. Create folders for VOD content no differently than if it came off the sat. If I record a show off the sat and download the same show from VOD they should both be in the same folder.

I believe that some sort of folder is necessary, and for ease of implementation having a folder for all VOD would be alright. But, I think that the best idea is what Sirshagg said, VOD shows should be cataloged like all shows recorded from the sat.

Something that I have noticed which could be related to this issue is the naming of VOD titles. On a normal show from the sat, the Play List names each folder by the show title, then within the folder, it is listed by episode name. What I have noticed on VOD is that shows are named like, "*Show Title* Episode 4," thus each episode entry looks like an entirely different show.

I know this reaches far past Play List logic and into the design of VOD and the naming of titles, but it's what I have observed.

Your choice is absent because the poll explicitly advocates an 80% solution (getting VOD out of the "root directory" of the playlist) that might be implemented without much effort or risk, vs. a (likely) far more difficult 100% solution which we are unlikely to get because of the effort/risk factors.

+3.

WE downloaded the complete first season of The Tudors a couple of weeks ago. Would have been much easier to have them all in a Tudors folder, instead of 12 individual listings.

I would vote for that or leave it as it is now. Not what has been proposed just a separate VOD folder

You should see my playlist ... it's littered with "The Tudors" that I downloaded from Showtime. The list would be so much easier to navigate if they were in one VOD folder or even in a folder based on the "root" of the VOD download name ...

Ex:

The Tudors - Episode 1
The Tudors - Episode 2
Etc.

Make a folder called VOD The Tudors and put the episodes in it, or make a folder called VOD and put all VOD downloads in it. I don't care which, just help me organize my Playlist!
