I have a hr20 in my family room. If I add another one upstairs and have both of them set to rf on the remote is there a way to have them not interfere with each other? Also the one I want to add upstairs I would like to "feed" two tvs in different rooms. I dont care about the tvs having the same program on both sets but my question is how far can I run the component or hdmi cables? Can it be 40 feet??

If you set them both to RF they will not interfere with each other. Each remote will only control the unit it is programmed for.
You can run an HDMI cable or component cables 40 feet without a problem.

If both units are on the same remote ID, and both are configured for IR, then there would be no problem.
If both units are on the same remote ID, with one configured for IR and the other for RF, then there would be no problem.
But if both units are on the same remote ID, and both are configured for RF, then there will be a problem, since the RF signal is strong enough to reach both receivers.
So if you want both on RF, you will have to configure one of the units (and its remote) to use a different ID. Information on this is available at http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=108130

No, this is NOT a problem. When you configure for RF, the remote uses the last six digits of the receiver ID number as part of the configuration. You could have dozens of units set up on RF sitting beside each other, and would not have a problem with cross-interference/control.
You can also program the remotes to work both units if you want. Program the DTV position of the remote to control the local TV, and the AV1 position to control the remote unit, if that would serve any purpose for you.
