A newbie... just trying to understand everything and what is possible before I jump in.

I've read some of the posts about "moving" et al.
I'd like to get the Buffalo, NY locals but my zip code isn't allowed.
However, It looks like I'm in the spot beam for Buffalo...

So... Since I don't fully understand this.

1. If I register the Directv service at my parents house and maybe later
"move " the equipment to my address can I sign up for the locals? Their address is definitely allowed for Buffalo locals since it's in the boonies away from any local broadcast areas.

2. Is there an access card for each receiver? or how do they work? i.e.
can you have 2 different access cards at a single location (1 per receiver)
e.g. if I install and activate a 2 room package with a multiplexor and a ellipse (18x24) dish at my house and have a relative add a HDVR2 to their
house (at the "good" zipcode), could I later move the HDVR2 to my
location and use my dish and get the "locals" that are authorized.

3. I'm not trying to bypass service , just trying to pay and get access to some additional locals that are out of our range and not carried by our cable. Our nearby locals will still be on our basic cable.

4. Locals... are you authorized for a specific city of locals or can you access
any locals that might be nearby i.e. we might be on the border of Buffalo and NYC locals (or perhaps even the Philadelphia one).

Thanks!

Hi Bill, Welcome to DBSTalk :hi: and Buffalo :D

As of right now you don't have to worry about spotbeams but later in the year you will. buffalo locals are CONUS on the 119 location, Later this year, DirecTV7S will launch and be a spotbeam satellite for 119.

Each receiver has it's own card, if someone else activates the receiver on their account you will get the channles they have. Why not activate all the receivers on the same account. Local channels are determined by zip code, if you live on the boarder of two markets you can't pick which one you want, you have to type in your zipcode on DirecTVs website and it will tell you which market claims that zip code.
