SPEED freezing up

Every once in a while the picture will freeze on the Speed channel. The sound is OK. I can switch to any other channel and all is well. If I then switch back to Speed, the picture is black without sound. Only a restart will fix it. I am using an H21 box.

Any ideas?

I'm assuming you're talking about the HD channel?

I found last night that the HD picture was fine but the audio kept dropping out, very annoying. SD version seemed OK audio and video wise.

I'm guessing they're still working the bugs out...

Yeah on the receiver in the living room it does that too. Its a black h21, in my room the black hr21 audio messes up occasionally but overall its ok.. It requires a restart when it freezes to work again.

Hmm...I'm on an HR20, and the ARCA race is fine. No freezing picture, no audio drop outs today...

I am getting audio dropouts everyonce in a while on the HD channel.

Was watching Cup Practice this morning on Speed and noticed the dropouts where pretty frequent. Never noticed any video issues, just audio. This was on an HR20. SD channel seemed okay. Hope they get it fixed... Isn't the shootout on Speed 2nite?

I've been watching off and on all day, no problems HR20-700, R10.

Shootout tonight is on FOX.

I have had this happen four times today, and twice during the 24 Hours last week. Really annoying. Glad it's just not me.

HR21-700 here....I noticed during the ARCA race on Speed HD the picture would freeze for just a second then jump back to the live feed. No audio dropout though. This happened at least 10 times during the race.

Had problems during the ARCA race as well. I went out and the picture was frozen from sometime during the Final Stuff for Cup but I was getting ARCA audio. I tried backing up my DVR as I was recording and it would show a few seconds and then freeze again. I stopped the recording and did a receiver reset through the menus and after the re-start it was fine.

Yeah, I saw this too.

I also turned on SPEED HD later at night, say around 10pm Eastern, and it was totally blank. Just a grey screen. The SPEED SD channel was fine, as were every other channel I checked, SD or HD. Are they turning SPEED HD off now if there's nothing HD to show, rather than simulcasting the SD?

the problem IS speed ..... doesnt matter it you have direct dish or any cable provider ..... everyone is seeingthe problems

Not only the sound dropping out the lip sync is on and off .

They are still working out the bugs. Overall it's been pretty good. It'a awesome to get all of this NASCAR in HD.

Do you have an HR21 set to native mode? Apparently there's a bug that it doesn't recognize some 720p channels as such, and instead puts out 480i for them, although still widescreen. This seems to be affecting me. I have to turn native off and manually set it to 720p (or 1080i) to see SPEED HD in actual HD.

Make sure that you are on SpeedHD. (there are 2 differnent channels)

I have an HR 20 with native on and it always shows 720p when I tune to any HD channel regardless of whether or not they are showing HD at that time.

The tech over on DirectTV's forum seems to think it's SpeedHD going through growing pains, but I've also noticed whenever 607 freezes up, channel 101 also freezes on mine?? I also have a new HR21-700 black box.. Next time it happens to ya'll see if channel 101 is also frozen..

I posted this on Directv tech forum page 2 of HD programming forum also.
I just spoke with Directv Case Management and they are now aware of this issue.
Issue: SpeedHD picture momentarily freezes and sometimes stays frozen. Soemtimes there is a little pixilation mixed in. If you switch to another channel and back it will be black w/o sound. Other HD channels that are now black w/o sound are 101, 265, 248, 266 and a couple others. Reset of your box by unplug, red button or via remote will fix all of this until it happens again in 20 minutes or two hours. Random issue.
Directv is addressing this with SPEED HD channel as a broadcast issue. Directv is also looking at a possible software fix for our recievers.
I also described the white streaks that occur in the top and bottom margin when a commercial or show (pinks) are not full screen.

Whats really trippy is that if i rewind the hr21 all the video is there recorded. but playing it, it still freezes.

Well, from 1:45 PM until 5:30 PM today, it froze up twice on SpeedHD, during the race. I really hope they get this fixed very soon!

Well It's 9:20 and I've lost em again. Here are the channels that went black, when 607 HD did: 248-265-266-267-269-276-327-359-612........................why?

Referring back to one of the previous posts. Speed is transmitting something strange in the signal, and DirecTV is working to find out what it is and get Speed to correct it. As a second issue, they probably need to generate a software modification at some point so if the problem with the signal happens again, it does not lock up some boxes (the HR21 in particular seems to be affected).

Having the same problem with my H21-200. It all started with the Rolex 24. You'd think they'd have it fixed by now. Locked up a couple times during the Truck race last night too. :hair:

I am having no picture freeze issues at all on my HR20-100. I have watched and/or recorded every bit of NASCAR on Speed over the past several days and the only issue I have noticed is that periodic sound drop outs.

Just happened to me for the first time on Speed and noticed it on a couple of the other MPEG4 HD channels as well. Ironically coincides with a call to DTV to ask for a free or discounted upgrade for my last HR10-250 box and was told there's "no soup for you!" Customer since 95, $90/moth for the last 5 + years, never asked for a discount or special treatment before and Cust Retention say "sorry"

I got lockups on an HR21 and H21 during the truck race Friday. When it happens it seems to affect a number of the HD channels (coming from the same satellite?)
Saturday night I left the H21 on Speed when I shut off for the night, the HR21 was on something else. This AM the H21 had a number of HD channels dark. The HR21 was fine.

The red button reset fixes the problem until some "lockout" pattern comes through the data stream. I guess the fix is to not watch Speed HD.

I passed a note to Directv via their email link and got a nice note back explaining how to press the red button. Oh well.

I've had the same problem since January and the Daytona 24 hours. I called DTV and they even sent techs out to check the installation and then replaced the box (HR21) that I've only had since November. The techs suggested that I trim some tree limbs on the periphery, but today it froze again on Speed. I did trim the limbs, obviously that's not the problem. So I'm interested to see that others are having the same problem.

Even trippier than that.. If you have the SpeedHD program set to record and it freezes.. Wait till after its done recording, reset the box, then you can watch the program fine from the harddrive.. :confused:

So I'm sitting on the couch watching NASCAR and hear a car revving in the backgroud, I get up to see who's outside, and DOH, its not outside, someone was revving a car on TV! Gotta love DD surround sound! :lol:

I've had freezing on my H21 since my upgrade install beginning of Feb. Freeze usually happens watching SpeedHD - but it is not limited to it. There are about 16 other HD channels (all new MPEG-4) that go black when this occurs.

There was some thought that it was exclusive to SpeedHD - but my system froze watching the Academy Awards on ABC. When this happened the same 16 including SpeedHD was black.

Even with the receiver replacement, the problem continues. Maybe some of you could see if leaving the receiver on overnight for example on SpeedHD, or another channel that goes away when the freeze issue happens.
