I have an HR20 box, with a regular non-HD 4:3 ratio TV. On the guide, and the little settings menu to the left, about an inch and a half of the screen are cut off. For example, the word "Settings" on the left side of the screen, would look like "Ettings" with the S cut off. None of the resolution/ratio options on the receiver change this, I've also tried both s-video and composite cables, and they also make no difference. Is this a problem with my receiver, or is it the TV, and if so, is there any way to fix it, or do I just have to live with it?

Welcome to DBSTalk!
Ensure the HR20 is set to 4X3 and then you can use the format button on the remote to cycle through screen sizes(formats)

Thanks for the welcome. I tried native off, 4:3, and only 480i... still the same problem. I also tried changing the letterbox/stretch/crop settings and they show no difference. The problem is the same with all the formats. Could it be a problem with my TV? I didn't really notice it with my old DirecTivo unit, but the menus weren't close enough to the left side of the screen for me to notice anyway.
This seems to be an issue with your television.

I wouldn't doubt it.. I only gave $300 for it, and that was at least 10 years ago.

Welcome to the forums! :welcome_s
Most of the time, this would be a problem with the amount of overscan on your TV.
I have one TV that puts the DIRECTV menus very close to the edges--no matter which of my many receivers I've used in the past and present. Fortunately, nothing is cut off so I haven't spent more time to try and find the settings to correct it.
BTW, on most TVs, the overscan settings are non-trivial, you can ruin a TV if you are not certain of what you are doing. (Or so I have read time and time again.)
Cheers,
Tom

I agree with Tom, it sounds like too much overscan on your TV. You may have an option in your TV setup menu to adjust it, but on most TVs it requires venturing into service mode --which requires being extremely careful. Best bet is to look on our sister forum AVSForums and see if you can locate a thread for your particular model to find out how to adjust.
