View Full Version : Lite up Tp 6 in The Seattle area
I just found out today that there is a new signal on Tp 6 in the Seattle area. I got 99 % on this new one, before i got 0 %. I know that these are spotbeams, so if it's the case we might have some new local HD coming soon, or maybe it's for another state, who knows . Of course it is just a supposition :D

Yep, this happened a week or two ago. Could mean that we'll be getting a couple more local HD channels soon.

Lots of activity on the Spaceways/DirecTV10 Ka spotbeams, been going on for a couple weeks; read:

Actually, as Seattle has had 2 transponders on 99/Spaceway2 for a long time, and when they moved FSN-NW/HD over to the national beams on DirecTV10 there was no change in the spots, there is space aplenty without ramping up more transponders; but, if they actually are going to lite up all the digital/HD stations they currently don't carry (at current count, over 4+ HD stations plus several SD ones), or are planning on moving some/all things to DirecTV10 spots, it may make some sense.
You might notice, if your dish is very well aligned, that the Spokane spots on 1/5 are also seeing 3 lit up on occasion. There is also some activity on DirecTV10 spots that, if I was to figure (going by the signal level alone)I, might be Yakima. But, I don't know anyone in that area (or Spokane) that is on DirecTV, they're all on Dish.

I hope that PBS and CW go live!!! I could care less about PBS (except for stuff like Ken Burns the War) but CW I think will have Mariners games in HD which makes a difference to me personally. I am moving in a week to a house and I am doing movers connection (2 HR21s and an R15) so I hope that something comes of it!

i think they moved the spotbeam on Sat 99 on the Seattle area, because i remember before on TPs 2 and 4, i had 98% max on clear sky on these, , and all other TPs had 0 %. Now on TPs 2 and 4 i have 100% (of course i didn't realign my dish) even when it's raining, i have 30% on TP1, and 31% on TP 5, and 100 % now on TP 6 (before 0%). I know that there was an agreement with My Q2 here in Seattle, so MAYBE who knows a new HD local is coming soon :D

As you are more 'towards the edge' of the spot-beam, those are interesting. On my 'trip' this last summer up hwy 20 (North Cascades Loop), and my 'new' Slimline and 'old' H20, it was 'interesting' to note the signal levels from Spokane improving, as Seattle started dropping off. Anyway, that was WAY back when, now.
What's of particular interest to me is the DirecTV10 spots activity. A couple transponders there (15, 21, 23) are very hot, not quite the 100, but 97+. So, they might me thinking of switching over to that from the Spaceway2. There are also a couple at 70+, which from my location 'reads' Yakama, unless of course it's simply 'dialed down' in power a bit.
Unfortunately, my niece up in Bellingham won't have DirecTV (or my other family relatives there either, they're on Dish) because of DirecTV's refusal to carry channel 12 (although her sister in Monroe does). I barely get it with a 'far-fringe' antenna (the digital feed, not analog) where I am at, and only on good days.

Yep i don't understand Directv on their local choice sometimes, we have on channlel 33 ION which is the same as the national ION on channel 305, What's the poing of having 2 same channels. :nono2: I would like to have for example NCWN, or as you said KVOS, although i received it here 100% of the time with just a cheap radio cable hooked up on my HR20, unfortunatelly no Seattle locals here. I wonder if i would be able to pick up some with a GOOD OTA, I never tried

Extremely unlikely, particularly as the 'main' Seattle digitals/HD are all on the 'borrowed from the FCC' UHF channels, not their 'main' VHF feeds. And those UHF feeds are pretty low powered; the highest is KIRO on UHF 39 ( something over 500Kw, compared to several MegaWatts on the analog ch7 feed). 'Maybe' when Feb09 comes around, and the VHF channels go digital. The only possibility then is KCTS/PBS, and that should be on the sat WAY before then (like, by this summer?).
Same of course, and probably worse, with the channels whose main analog feeds are today on UHF. But, it depends on what you can get via a decent (extreme deep fringe) antenna WAY up high. If you can get a fair signal on them now, it will get better when the digital changeover occurs (knock on wood).
It gets back to DirecTV, that knew when they started doing local into local (LIL) in 2000, that the subscriber base exploded.

Not all of the digital stations will be switching back to VHF. I believe that KOMO (4), KING (5) and KIRO (7) will stay on their UHF frequencies, although they will probably move the antennas to the top of the towers, which will help. I recall that KCTS (9), KSTW (11) and KCPQ will revert to their VHF frequencies but don't know whether KONG (16) or KMYQ (22) will go back to their old UHF.
