For those of us who are die hard South Side Chicago White Sox fans, today a bit of White Sox history died. Good old Jerry Reinsdorf (for those of you who aren't White Sox Fans - he owns the Sox and the Bulls) sold the naming rights to Comiskey Park - named after Charles Comiskey who was the first owner of the team - to US Cellular for $58 million over 20 years. Mr. Reinsdorf claims he needs the $$ to repair a stadium which is about 13 years old. So sad.....I felt a tear in my heart when they decided to do in the original Comiskey Park..what a wonderful place it was. They built the new one when they didn't need to and now replacing the name with a cell phone name. Its truely sad...but look on the bright side Sox fans - it could have been Preperation H Field!!!

I agree that this is sad and bad for baseball. They don't even seem to care about history anymore. It's all about the money.

What is US Cellular? Honestly I've never heard of them before...obviously it's a cell phone company, but are they that big?

I can just see now how that would have gone over if the Sox were ever out of contention early.....Fans and everyone else would start calling it Pain In The Ass Park.....:rolling:

To be honest, I heard old Comiskey Park was in worse shape than Fenway, and Fenway has to be one of the worst places to see a baseball game if you're not a politician or sportwriter.
