Here's a stupid question, I'm sure...
I ordered a new computer monitor for my XPS system. I'm moving from a standard 4:3 LCD to a widescreen LCD. Will I need to change any computer settings? Will everything in XP be "stretch-o-vision?" TYIA.

You will probally want to change the resolution to as high as possible.

Everything will remain proportionate if you use wide screen resolutions. For instance 1600 by 1050 instead of 1600 by 1200.

Your system "Should" detect the new monitor and it "Might" ask for drivers for it. The system should detect the monitors capabilities through Plug and Pray and offer you up the new resolutions. So as mentioned here as long as you change to a resolution appropriate for the new monitors aspect ratio you should be all set.

We just went through this at work. The on-board graphics did not have wide-screen settings and made everything stretch-o-vision. Fortunately this started not long before scheduled PC replacements, so our new PCs have dual monitor graphics cards that support 1920x1200 for the 24" WS. Now the problem is the 4:3 monitor can't be set above 1024x768 without either excessive overscan or losing about an inch of usable screen width. I'm guessing there's some limitation to the combined pixel-count of the 2 monitors, but haven't looked to see what card the IT folks got us.

WoW....is all I can say since hooking mine up. Everything was stretched wrong, at first, with no widescreen resolution options. I then updated my graphics card driver and I'm now loving the 1440x900 resolution!
i have a 26'' widescreen and i will never go back to a 4:3 screen
As with all fixed matrix monitors, it is best to run it at the native matrix. If your display card doesn't support that configuration, you're on your own to decide what looks best.
22" widescreen and man did my 17" crt take a back seat really quick
