View Full Version : What happened to my Fox Sports Pittsburgh HD (628-1)

Since 628-1 came on line I have been able to watch the Pens games on this channel if FSP was broadcasting the game in HD. However, the last 2 games (2/10 and 2/13)`were not shown in HD, and where before the guide would read as TBA up until a game was carried, it now shows movies as being upcoming. Currently it has the Bourne Ultimatum as coming up. Has anybody else in the Central PA area had this problem?
Go PENS!!!

I have no idea? Next scheduled HD game is on 2/19 I believe. Let's try and troubleshoot a bit so that it may be more helpful if someone has some insight.
What type of receiver do you have?
Is FSP your 'home team'? If not sure check here http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageIF.jsp?assetId=P3000004
I do not get in in my base but they are if I have Premier or I have sports pack. I have the sports pack.

I have an HR20....FSN Pitt is my home RSN......I don't have sports pack or premier...I used to get hd games on fsn, but the past few I haven't....suggestions?
Byron, I wonder if this is somehow tied in with my issue?!?

probably not.... i think i've seen the things that you describe from the start with the part time RSNs. i think it's just DirecTV making efficient use of the bandwidth when there is no HD feed being provided by FSN-Pittsburgh.

Yes. The -1 RSNs share transponder space w/ PPV. Sometimes the guide filtering isn't done properly to hide the PPV listings from the guide on the RSNs. Seems to be happening a lot lately, but it's just cosmetic.

The past 2 games have been broadcast in hd, but we couldn't get it. The guide had PPV movies in it.

Satellite Racer will have to handle that question!

Who is this Satellite Racer and where do I find him....:)

Sat Racer is the man in the know for the NHL CI package. I myself do not have the CI package. Bwaldron, I understand what you are saying but the guide seems to also be overriding the actual telecast. This has only been a recent occurrence, up to this week, 628-1 has gone on without a hitch. I also noticed in that guide that several other -1 channels also have PPV movies listed, unknown if they are experiencing the same issues.

Still no change.....Any idea on who to contact. I even tried a reset on both the H20 and HR20 to see if that would do the trick, with no luck.

Are we sure that's a fact? I watched both games and did not see the typical "available in HD" at the beginning, or the listing of cable/satellite providers and the corresponding channel the HD version was being broadcasted.
I can't remember many (if any) games that were in HD that D* didn't pick up. I think that this may be an FSN issue and not D*.
I also noticed this about the recent Pens games and they were only available in SD. Apparently, FSN Pittsburgh isn't to the point of doing, at least, all home games in HD yet. Not sure of the reasoning, but I would guess its $$$$.
I wonder if the Pirates games will be in all HD in 2008 or only some away or only some home.
I know that Comcast did not carry the Boston game (2/13) in HD either. It looks to be an FSN issue.

I think that the Pirates will look bad whether they are in HD or SD :D

The Penguins website says that the last 2 home games (Flyers and Bruins) were supposed to be in HD. But, if Comcast didn't air them in HD, then it is a problem with FSN Pittsburgh.

Correct - I don't know anyone that saw them in HD.

Thanks for the info gents. Now grandprix and I can sleep easier. I had missed the beginning of both games so wasn't aware that it was no longer scheduled for HD. It will be so nice when it isn't a a worry anymore. Thanks again!

n3......From the Pirates site....
The Pittsburgh Pirates and FSN Pittsburgh, the exclusive rights holder for Pittsburgh Pirates regional Major League Baseball telecasts, announced today that a record 125 regular season and two Spring Training games will be aired in 2008. FSN will be offering 54 of the regular season games in High Definition (HD) where available (HD schedule and details will be announced at a later date).

Thanks for the update everyone.
I was curious as to why I wasn't receiving the Penguins in HD the past few games. I'm glad to hear its a FSN issue rather than a D* issue.

NHL.com (under the schedule/NHL pulldown) usually does a good job of listing what games are available where and if they are in HD.

Yes, that is the most accurate source I've found. Not perfect, but nearly so.

OK. So forgive me for being the alarmist.....but......NHL.com lists tomorrow's game in HD and FSP has also advertised it to be as well. My concern comes from that on the HD availability channel (77), FSP is no longer listed, even in the RSN game only slide. Hope this means nothing but I guess we will find out for sure tomorrow.

I don't know what is up with the 628-1 channel, but the game is listed on 775-1 and 776-1 for tomorrow night. This would imply that both teams are broadcasting in HD, or at the least, Pittsburgh is and FLA is an upconvert. I have never seen FSP do an upconvert. Future games all seem to be in the same boat (listed on CI in HD, but PPV movies are listed on the regular RSN.) Guess we'll see tomorrow of it lights up or not.
It might be that they just broadcast Home games in HD. That is what FSN-Houston does for the Rockets. Also, the RSN (Altitude) dose for Aves’ (Hockey) and Nuggets’ (Basketball).games in Denver.

Yes, tonight's Pens game looks to be in scheduled for HD on both FSNP and FSNF. FSNP had BETTER have this in order because this is ridiculous.
