when i went to turn on the sat t60 tonight, it wouldnt turn on by the power button or remote.
So i unplugged it, waited, plugged it back in. Shortly after the wait a few more seconds screen, a green screen came up, saying a severe error was encounted, please wait 3 hours while the reciever dials in and trys to repair itself.
I will see what happens, but does it sound like it is near death?

Not necessarily. It could be that there's some corruption in the software and the DTivo is working to fix it on it's own. It could also mean that the drive is going bad and has caused some issues, resulting in the green screen. Just let it sit and see if it corrects itself. If it's a serious problem then it may not come out of the green coma. Allow up to 48 hours for the repair to complete, although it usually takes considerably less time.
Chances are, if there is a problem and it doesn't recover, you'll simply need to install a new hard drive and software. Any off-the-shelf IDE/PATA drive will work as long as it's less than 137GB (S1 DTivos don't natively support drives > 137GB without a modified kernel). Check the DVRUpgrade website for an InstantCake image to download for your model (make sure you get the correct one because they don't offer refunds if you get the wrong image). Follow the instructions for using an InstantCake boot CD and you'll be back in business in short order.

Thanks for the info.....I checked this morning, 10 hours later, the power light was on, but the screen was stuck on the "welcome, powering up" screen....for the 30 minutes I was looking at it......
