I'm not sure where to put this as it probably effects all receivers with the latest software. Hopefully, someone will notice it here. If the mods believe it belongs somewhere else...I won't be hurt if it's moved.

There is no logical menu entry for Reading Messages.
If you select the Caller ID & Msgs menu you're faced with:
- Edit Settings
- Turn Off Notices
- Caller ID Entry A
- Caller ID Entry B
- First Line of Caler ID Entry C.

So, where do you go to read a message? You go to "Edit Settings" and then "Messages". This should be corrected as it is non-intuitive.

How about putting a line in above Caller ID Entry A for "Read Messages" and put the envelope to the left if there is a new message? It will push the display of Caller ID down one line, but that only means someone won't be able to see the first line of a two-line display.

Another problem with that same menu is that there is no indicator that you can scroll the caller ID display to see additional calls.

There seems to be a lot of white space around the DirecTV logo that could be put to use.

Also, if you choose A or B or C then hit done, it dumps you out of the caller ID stuff. Should take you back to where you choose the caller ID entries, not all the way out of everything.

The whole Caller ID/Message menuing needs to be revisited.

I posted about the messages as bugs in the issues threads and included a suggestion. If DIRECTV uses messages more often, they will need to address this ...

--------

Issue: Info Banner and Menu each show I have a new message waiting, but the new message is NOT at the top of the Caller D & Msgs meun.

Description: There is an envelope icon next to "Caller ID & Msgs" in the Menu and there is an envelope icon in the Info Banner. Selecting "Caller ID & Msgs" in the Menu, I would expect to see an indicator at the top of the menu about the new message, but instead there's an option called "Edit Settings", an option called "Turn Off Notices", and dozens of past caller ID names and numbers. The "new" message, "FREE PREVIEW of NASCAR...." is over 10 presses of PAGE-DOWN away, at the very end of the menu.

Suggestions: New Messages should be chronologically inserted into the sub-menu in order of receipt. If there are no new calls, then the message "FREE PREVIEW..." should be the top item - it should not be at the end of the menu.

Also, to be more intuitive, the "Edit Settings" option needs to be changed or updated when there's a new message. It should read "View Messages and Edit Settings" to let the user know that all messages may be viewed in one place.

------------

Issue: After selecting "Caller ID & Msgs" and then "Edit Settings" when there is at least one new message, the BLUE ENVELOPE ICON on the screen does not have enough contrast with the background.

Description: See above and picture attached.

Note: Pic is from HR20-700 but is same low-contrast blue envelope icon on HR20-100 and HR21-700.

Actually, you have to scroll down all the way through your Caller ID info to get to the Email/messages, which is a real pain in the arse!

So, when you get to the Caller ID messages section, just scroll down through the numbers shown to get to the messages.

I got a message the other day on my HR20-700 and it showed up at the top of the list, above the CID numbers.

So maybe it just keeps the messages in the list in chronological order with Caller ID reports.

I would like to see a menu item that would allow you to delete all CID entries.

Anyone know the max number of entries CID will hold before it starts deletintg them?

Thanks Drew...I'll check it out. I wonder sometimes if DirecTV has someone that is really schooled in interface design. It's a specialty and requires a lot of planning and attention to detail...that is if you want an intuitive/attractive interface.

It doesn't really cost much more in time or resources to do it right once you've set the standards and it can make a huge difference in reducing tech support calls and engendering customer loyalty.

You're right. It really makes no sense. I also wish there were a "delete all" option so you didn't have to delete each 1 manually.
