View Full Version : Shoud there be a separate HR20/21 Poll Forum?

Maybe it's just me, but while I do like the poll capability of bulletin board services, unfortunately for an active forum such as this one, it sometimes seems that the number of polls tends to kind of get in the way of just talking about issues and general discussion of the forum topic.
Would this forum benefit from a separate poll forum for the HR20/21 and similar? Especially when it comes to enhancements/changes to features and functionality?

The topic has come up before.... and there has yet be an overwhelming need.
Since the polls are just at the top of the pages, the threads can still continue on their discussion points.
And in all honesty... Would you visit a "poll" forum... on a regular enough basis.... To make it worth wild...
Out of the first 160 threads in this particular forum.... there are 10 polls...
With one of them being the DLB sticky discussion

I wish they would seperate the HR20 stuff from the HR21 stuff. Its confusing trying to keep the two seperate.

The confusion tends to continue even if the forums are separated. People will type questions in the HR20 forum when they are thinking HR21, because a thought will occur to them.
Also, with so much overlap between the two devices, most information really pertains to both anyway.

HR20 & HR21 are still the same "family" of receivers, even though one doesn't have OTA.
It would be more confusing if these were seperated into different forums.
Now that all 4 receivers are up to basically the same software version, they basically have the same feature set, which means CHANCES ARE GOOD that when a bug is found in one it will also be found in the other 3 receivers.

Here's what I do. When I see a thread that doesn't seem to be interesting...I skip it.

I was simply asking a question. I'm quite capable of skipping topics that aren't of interest.
Personally, I would be happy to visit a poll forum if I knew that it's intent was that the information would be used to help DirecTV better understand user's interests in features in functions that are appreciated or could be improved. Similar to the CE forum idea, but different.
However, I have no problem with Earl's reasoning. If the topic has been raised and addressed before, then this thread can be closed and we can move on. No biggie.

As the firmware continues to sync up more, it only makes sense to keep the HR20 and HR21 things together.

No worries at all. We take on all questions that are meant to learn or help (like this one). And we're happy to answer. :)
And thread is closed at your suggestion.
Hope you are having a great weekend,
Tom
