Hughes Exec Receiver and VCR

Can anyone tell me how this receiver tells vcr to record shows. Is this done by some wired connection or face to face. If I get this unit , they will be on different selfs 6' apart.

Thanks The signal is sent by a infrared cable, which attaches to the front of your VCR over the remote sensor and the cable plugs into the back of the Sat. reciever, and the cable is approx. 6' long which comes with your reciever. :hi:
