I just bought a laptop and wireless router yesterday and spent most of the night setting up and playing around. I have everything set up and working. I have my HR20-100 hooked up wired to router and wireless connection working to laptop. I hooked my old desktop up to router to see if I could pull files off and put onto my laptop. This is my first time setting up a network and am unsure about how to go about it. My desktop is running XP and laptop is running Vista Home Premium. Cannot get laptop to recognize desktop, and can get desktop to recognize laptop but need username and password to connect to it. If someone has some advise for me I would appreciate it. Thanks

One or both of the systems probably has the Windows Firewall Enabled which will prevent the connection from being made. You only have to disable the firewall on the system you want to pull the files off of.

You also will have to enable File Sharing On the system you want to copy the files from. This should then take care of the problem where you are being prompted for a password. Do this by Right Clicking on folder or drive that you want to share out then go to sharing - it will give you the warning about sharing folders.

The other thing you can check is to make sure that they are also in the same workgroup. It doesn't matter what the name is as long as both of the systems are the same. Check this by right clicking on My Computer, Properties then Computer Name Tab.
