View Full Version : Change of Commitment Date

Currently, I've had Directv hooked up for almost two years. On my initial hook-up, I had HD receiver and standard receiver connected with a two year commiment to stay with Directv. Last October, I changed out the standard receiver with a second, HD receiver for $99.00 and no shipping costs.

When I received a notice of a recent price change, I called up and cancelled some of my programming (Starz/NFL Package). I figured that if costs were going to start increaseing each year, I would reduce my overall costs. I'm retired and do have to budget my monthly costs for entertainment.

While talking to the rep, I asked when my 2 year commitment date was up, thinking it would be in June. Imagine my surprise when I learned that the 2 year commitment date started all over again because of my HD upgrade. I told the rep that I didn't think it was right to do this without my prior approval and then asked, what recourse do I have? I was transferred to another rep who asked what could do for me? I repeated my previous comment, and without further discussion reduced my monthly bill by $20.00 for the next 6 months. He did ask me if I was planning on leaving Directv and I told him no, just that I didn't care for changing the 2 year commitment date without prior approval.

It just shows that a little persistence can work in your favor once in awhile and keeping your cool as you try to make your point.

Well, I know when I scheduled my parents upgrade the other day, I was told no less than 3 times that there would be a new 2 year commitment and a pro-rated $20 per month cancellation charge if they cancelled within the 2 years.

I also recall that when I did the HD upgrade at home in 2007, I was told of the new commitment date.

It appears that some CSR's do not pass this information along to the end user. However as with anything, 5 minutes of checking into this prior to upgrading would have eliminated the surprise.

It is also in the HD boxes when you open them and part of the receipt if you buy it from a store.

Where is your commitment date available? I have checked one of my paper bills and my on-line account and don't find anything.

It isnt, the only place or way to get it is from a CSR directly.

I think you can log into your account and there is a link for previous transactions. It should have the date when your original was installed.:D

No tried that......

I have been a customer sonce 1994-1995 and dn't plan on leaving. But I do believe D* should provide that piece of information for the customer.

I devlopmed, designed and consulted on WEB application for close to 15 years and I can not see why something like that is not available.

Oh it used to be, and it is, all you have to do is call and ask, no bs. I think they took it off of the site because 90% of the people dont care what their commitment date is unless there is a problem or they are looking to deal. Why put information up that would encourage people to either leave or call looking for a better deal.

I just don't believe calling a CSR for committment date is the best use of thier time. In the those times I have called about a problem I have had to wait several minutes tryng to get through.

Perhaps people don't really care, I don't because I have been a customer for so long I would not leave. Ho9wever, since there are so many different inconsistant replies from CSRs about when a commitment is changed I would just like to have it posted and available to the customer..
