Why does dOd require an ISP network connection?

Just curious -- why does dOD require this to be configured and setup via an Internet connection attached to the DVR?

I mean, if it's for Scheduling a download, why shouldn't we be able to do that via DirecTV's web site -- ala their Recording feature???

Seems kind of strange to me that we HAVE to set up and configure an actual Internet Connection to the DVR... IMO :confused:

well you might need an internet connection because EVERYTHING you get off DOD is DOWNLOADED from the internet ;)

DoD uses the internet because D* doesn't have the bandwidth available on the satellite fleet to download the content.
