Hi,
I am a newbie to the satellite world. I am currently looking to get DISH network system (508/301) for 2 TVs along with International programming. There are various offers available right now.

Is it better to purchase 2 receivers and 2 dishes (intl. programs need 2nd dish) for $249. Or should I rent them and pay $5 extra for programming.

Though the programming is cheaper ($5) if I purchase the system, the receivers would be absolute technology in an year or two.

I would appreciate if you can point me in right direction.

Thanks
Srinath

I've rented my receivers (501/301) for the past year and a half: 18 months * $5 = $90.

Once the 921 receiver comes out, I'll purchase that and turn in my other equipment. So assuming 6 months to another year, I will probably just be coming up upon the break even stage assuming I'd sold receivers I'd bought on ebay.

I would think the answer to your question is entirely dependent upon how long you plan on having the equipment.

While the 508 and 301 aren't the flagship receivers anymore, I don't think they will be "obsolete" in the timeframe you specified. The 721 and 921 will be priced far above the average consumer's entry point for years to come.

Sounds like the prices you have are high to me. There are online deals where you as a new subscriber can purchase a 508/301 combo with install for $99 and a 1 year commitment. As for the 2nd dish, if you subscribe to locals they will give you a 2nd dish and install it for no charge. If you have to buy the 2nd dish, you can find them for as low as $35 online. The $5 savings per month vs the lease program would pretty much pay for the local channels assuming you are eligible for them. Different dealers have different offers. Some give you the rebate up front and others give it to you as a monthly discount. Check Dish Depot, Allsat and your local dealers for a package that meets your needs.
