About 9 months ago, I added an R15 to my account for my last SD tv. I got a new HD TV to replace it for X-mas, and lat last month I finally added an HR21-700 to my account for my newest HDTV. I kept the R15 for the moment so that I could finish watching a couple things that were still on it. Yesterday, after finishing watching everything, and doing a reset everything, I finally disconnected it, called Directv and had it turned off. Low and behold, they didn't want it back! The CSR said that it was an owned unit, so I didn't need to worry about it. I never paid a single dime for the unit, and it was definetly leased! Are they starting to abandoned the R15's because they want everyone to have R16s here on out because of SWM or something? Any thoughts, or did the guy just screw up? I only have one owned unit, and thats my HDTivo....

The R15 is no longer being made, and has been surpassed by the R16.
If they are not going to send a recovery box for it... then yes... they dont' want it back

Sometimes the system does mess up. Did you happen to have the R15 replace a receiver that you had owned? It's possible that when that happened the R15 got marked as owned and not leased. I have a feeling that my R15 might be considered owned as my bill lists my second receiver as an Additional Receiver as opposed to a Lease Fee that other people seem to have.
It happens. Don't worry about it. Enjoy your large paper weight.

Just get it in writing...
i would suggest an e-mail throught the DTV website askign for confirmation of the owned status..if you get that...keep the confirmationa nd do what you want withthe R15.

Does that mean if my R15 is defective, it will be replaced with an R16?

It will depend on what is available in the local distribution center.
As times goes on, the R16's will all that is there... as the R15 supply dries up.
They do attempt to replace model-model while stock is available.
